An Afternoon with Roy, Deb, Hans and Anneke

Sunday, March 31 – Continued

We would have not passed any Amish carriages if we had headed north instead of south following lunch. We were going south because Roy and Deb wanted to show Hans and Anneke some of the animals they have rehabbed.

This is a familiar scene in Roy and Deb’s area on a Sunday afternoon.

Before long we arrived at the woodlot where fawns are released – after they have been rehabbed and can live on their own. Deb and Roy called their names and soon the five young deer they rehabbed last year came out of the woods.

They were all found alone as newborns after their mothers were killed on the road or by some other kind of accident.

The enticement to come to Roy and Deb was fresh blueberries. They have been in the wild since last fall or summer, but know that each time Roy and Deb come they will feed them something special.

Deb had a baby squirrel along – that she is currently rehabbing – just in case we did not have time to go to their house.

Anneke loved holding it.

We did have time to go to Roy and Deb’s house and see some animals that can not be released into the wild because of health issues. Some have brain damage from an accident, others have something similar to Down Syndrome and a few are pets.

Of course, everyone needs a puppy.

Then it was time to go to Jere and Kristen’s for Jana’s birthday supper.

We again saw several Amish.

Then, as we approached our home area, we saw these five deer close to the road.

Pictures of Jana’s birthday party in my next post.
