Update on Josiah

This is what has been happening in Josiah’s life in the past week.

We were pleased that he got a four-hour release from rehab so he could attend Grandma Hershey’s funeral meal. Since it is a one-hour drive each way, we encouraged him to just come for the meal where he could relax and his family and friends could visit him. In this picture, his cousin Jana is talking to him. He was seated next to his sister Lydia – who brought him. On the other side of the table is his brother-in-law Nate, his sister Abby, and his mom.

Following the funeral meal, Jere and Kristen’s entire family and our grandson Nathan came to the house to empty the man cave and put Josiah’s bed and recliner in the room in preparation for him to move to our house. His earliest move to our house would be Wednesday, October 31 – if all goes well with skin grafting on the 30th.

His dad and sister Hannah stopped in at rehab early Sunday morning on their way back to Maine.

Later in the day – after church and lunch – we went to Reading Rehab to visit and see how Josiah is doing. His mom is staying with us for the next week and a half. His friend Dan (background left) and his family were playing Qwirkle with Josiah in one of the rec rooms when we arrived. Dan went along to Josiah’s room to get his coat before their family went home.

Josiah and his mom

We stayed until 4 pm so we could see him go through rehab.

Going for a walk – really a hop, because he cannot put weight on his right leg.

Practicing going up a 6″ step – which he will have to do when he enters and leaves our house.

He is doing that quite well.

Using a weight on his left leg and working on moving his right foot and ankle.

He is back in Reading Hospital today for the possibility of skin grafting. His mom, Diane, took this picture early today as he was prepared to go to the operating room. If they can do the entire skin graft today, he is supposed to be released to our house tomorrow.

I am posting this before we know the results of today’s surgery.

I did some final preparations in his room this morning so we are ready for the possibility of his earliest release – tomorrow.
