South Africa – Day 12 – Shiduli – Part 2

Sunday, March 11 – Brunch

We were greeted by the man on the left who welcomed us to Shiduli’s Sunday morning brunch.

We were glad that Kate had a morning off and didn’t have to cook for us. (She came for the brunch and to pick us up when we were ready to go home.)

Eggs made to your liking.

A highlight of the morning was when many of the lodge workers sang a few Sunday morning worship songs!

Oh, wow!

If you look closely, you can see our family in the background on the far right.

We would have liked them to keep singing.

Dorries and Doris

I asked her what they were singing to us.

“When you invite God into your life, He pushes your problems away.”

I like that.

After that delightful interlude, we went back to enjoying our delicious breakfast.

While the others checked out the gift shop, I walked around the very plush and lush lodge grounds and took a few pictures.

Workers kept the walkways clean.

It was delightful to be here for a morning – but we looked forward to going back to Phil and Kate’s – where it felt like home.

Don’t you wonder why we stopped the van?

It certainly wasn’t a large critter. Kate and Jere are watching it in the grass.

When we first arrived, the dung beetle was pushing a large ball of dung across the road.

I read about dung beetles and learned that sometimes the female goes along for the ride, then lays an egg in the dung after it is buried.

Phil and Kate said the non-working beetle can also be a male competitor.

Kate and Phil do not run over dung beetles with their vehicles – which tells you something about their value to the land.

Oh, be still my heart. It’s a beautiful male nyala.

In my next post I will tell you about the rest of our Sunday with Phil and Kate.
