Retirement of a Chaplain and a Chapel

Monday, July 24

When Jeff (TFC Executive VP) said he had an hour-long speech prepared in honor of Dick and Nancy Heaney, Inge (TFC Executive Assistant to the President and Highway News Editor) threatened to strangle him.

I think she was ready for lunch. 🙂

To those who know the TFC Int. Office staff (clockwise starting with Lynn (red flowered top), Dan, Dick, Nancy, Sam, Inge, Jeff, Bunny, Peg, Ruth, Carol and Jane.

Dan (TFC President), Dick and Nancy listen as Jeff honors Dick and Nancy for their service to TFC during the time Dick served as chaplain at the Bloomsbury, New Jersey TA Travel Center.

Dick shared a bit about his experience as a chaplain and thanked the staff for their faithfulness and assistance.

Then it was time for lunch.

Everyone brought something for the sandwich and salad themed lunch.

Cerwin wasn’t at the luncheon because he and Glenn Fahnestock were preparing to remove the chapel at the Elkton, Maryland, TA Travel Plaza. Their first job was to remove the large deck and ramp and…

…the lattice trim.

The next day (July 25) they brought it back to the TFC Office. It is not in great shape, so instead of repair, it will be sold at a truck auction.

It is always sad to remove a chapel from a truck stop. However, there are times it becomes necessary to do this due to lack of staff and traffic to the chapel. In this case we still have a chapel about one mile away where the chaplain staff are kept busy. Those who were able to serve a few days a month at this one will be able to serve on the chapel at the Flying J Travel Plaza.
