The day after we returned from our friend’s mountain cabin, the corn harvest began next to our yard.

In this harvest, you will notice that the corn stalks are still green, which means they are chopping the stalk and the corn together – making corn silage – which the cattle enjoy eating. Farmers mix this with outer nutrients.

This was about 12:30 pm.

This looks like a field committee meeting. 🙂 Apparently, it was, because they all moved on to another field.

They came back about 6:30 pm and began working in the field across the road.

They apparently worked into the night, because both fields were harvested by the time we woke up on October 7.
Notice, we can see the road again.

On October 16, they began harvesting the corn across the road from our yard.

You will notice that these corn stalks are dry and more brown than green.
This time they were harvesting the corn only – and not the stalk. The stalk will be picked up later and made into corn fodder, which is bedding for cattle.

The corn will also be mixed into cattle feed. Lots of farmers sell or buy corn after it is dried.

Harvest time makes me feel like it is definitely autumn in our neighborhood.
It’s definitely fall — and they really make quick 2o4k or he harvest with those machines!
It doesn’t take long before the fields are empty of crops.
