Weekend at a Friend’s Mountain Cabin

October 3-5 at Gene and Rose’s mountain cabin

Rose and Fay on the front deck of the log cabin.

It has been a long time since we spent time in a mountain cabin, so we were looking forward to the weekend with our TFC friends Gene and Rose and Marv and Fay.

A side view of the house.

It had been family dwelling until the Gehman’s noticed that it was for sale – earlier this year. It is conveniently located – about 2 hours from our area.

The inside is quite comfortable and a great place to relax. There is no internet, so it is a great way to get away from the noise of the world. We did have cell phone service which helped us stay in touch with family. That was especially nice for us, because it was the Saturday of Nate and Abby’s shop fire. (on my Facebook page if you missed that.) (1) Facebook.

On Saturday afternoon Rose taught Fay and me how to play Sequence on the round game table.

I forgot to take a picture. This is from the Internet.

This trophy reminded us that this is also a hunting cabin. We didn’t see any wildlife. The field camera showed us that there were deer there during the night. They have seen deer and a bear on previous visits.

My favorite spot – their porch.

Cerwin, Marv, and Gene

We spent a lot of time here as we reminisced about our many years serving together with Transport For Christ. We talked about situations and people that I haven’t thought about in many years.

There are nice storage sheds for vehicles, tools, their lawnmower.

Gene made Saturday evening supper on the grill.

Both cuts of meat were pork and very delicious.

There were also potatoes.

The view if I turned my back on the grill.

At the kitchen table. Cerwin, Fay, Marv, Gene and Rose.

Sunset looked like fire on the ground and leaves.

Sunday morning just before leaving for church.

Their mountain driveway is narrow and bumpy. 🙂

The mountain church they enjoy is not far from the end of the road and driveway that goes to the cabin.

We enjoyed the morning fellowship, went back to the cabin for a baked potato and chili con carne lunch, visited and reminisced some more, packed our suitcases, and then cleaned up for the next guests before heading home. (One of their sons, his family, and friends of theirs were coming the next weekend.

On the way home we stopped for ice cream. That was indeed a relaxing and fun way to spend a weekend.
