In a previous post I told you about installing the rafters over the newly enlarged feedlot. This week they began installing the roof and finishing the siding on the south end of the Homestead barn.

They were working on other details and the siding during the week. Today they are adding the finishing touches.
If you look to the middle/upper right, you can see our house. That way you know why we go by the Homestead so many times in a week.

Our family is so very pleased at how well our niece, her husband, their son and daughter-in-law take care of the Homestead. Many times I wish some of my ancestors could see the farm today.
It looks beautiful — almost like a brand new barn!
It does look new. However, the base of the barn was built between 1875 and 1888. We know my Great Great Grandpa John Hershey bought the farm in 1875 and rented it out. During the rental time the barn burn down because two little boys were playing with matches. It was rebuilt before my Great Grandpa Jacob and Annie Hershey moved there after they married in 1888.
