Cousin’s Week – Day 3 – Kid’s Day At Esbenshade’s Garden Center

Wednesday Morning, July 15

DSC_7348I took the three boys to Annual Kid’s Day at Esbenshade’s Garden Center. (Diana was working, Jana needed to rest after her first evening at work since her surgery, and Gloria decided to stay home with Jana.)

DSC_7355The first feature of the morning was a representative from Zoo America, Hershey, PA, with five critter species from Pennsylvania.

DSC_7355Gopher Tortoise.

Gopher tortoises love to dig boroughs, and when they are bored move on to begin another. This benefits other animals who use these as their homes.

They have powerful jaws and are nonvenomous.

DSC_7365This one is about five years old. They can live to be about eighty years old and will grow to twelve feet in length.

DSC_7405After the Zoo America presentation, the children were invited to visit several stations (marked by balloons) where there were fun things for them to do.

DSC_7371Our first stop was the “Plant Your Own Plant” area.

After choosing a pot, the children chose a flower to plant.

DSC_7379If I remember correctly, the goal of this game was to get at least one ball in a white area. If you did, you chose two prizes. If not, you could only choose one prize.

DSC_7415Jesse wanted to see the ambulance and fire truck that were in the parking lot.

DSC_7419He received a bag of goodies from a fireman and watched the other two stamp each others arms with one of the prizes they had received.

DSC_7426This station was too busy when they finished planting their flowers, and Jesse wanted to decorate his flower pot.
