This little pass got us right through the gate.

Gary, Pearl, Larry, Hank, and Cerwin praying before the opening of the show. (I was also praying while taking the photo. )

This custom-built pickup truck was one of Cerwin’s favorites. We could see it from our vendor booth when the room wasn’t full of people.

Since all six of us were at the vendor booth, I decided to take a walk to North and South Halls.

It is difficult to describe the size of these halls. It is easy to loose your sense of direction – at least for me. At one point I was trying to look for an exit door, and had no idea where it was, so went to an outside wall and walked around until I found one.

The Michelin Man was walking around and talking to people in his area.

I went here hoping to see my favorite Kenworth salesman – Bill Burns.

Shortly after finding him, friends from church, Jon and Linnea arrived in the area.

I also looked up R.H. Sheppard to see who was there, because they are coworkers with Roy. They remembered me from last year as Roy’s mother-in-law, and Deb’s mother.

I loved this little customized pickup truck. It was made by the little boy’s father.

More tomorrow night.

Setting Up & Ministry Meeting

Mid-America Trucking Show

Louisville, Kentucky – Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Gary (green shirt) and Pearl arrived on Tuesday afternoon and did the basic set up – carpet and tables. They like to arrive early to get a good spot for their fifth-wheel camper.

On Wednesday morning, Cerwin and I helped do the detailed set up. Here Cerwin is adding the lighted cross, which is a highlight of our 10 x 20 vendor spot.

This man was our first visitor – even before we were set up. I think he was an expo worker.

Another vendor also stopped by before everything was in place.

Chaplain Hank Rader (red shirt), from Knoxville, Tennessee, arrived just after we finished putting things in place. Gary’s wife, Pearl, is sitting in the background. The men were evaluating the layout of our space.

I noticed these beautiful flowers on the way to the afternoon Truck Stop Ministry Meeting.

DSC_0054

This is a meeting of representatives from various Christian truck stop ministries for the purpose of learning more about what is happening in each ministry and to pray for the truck show.

It was a great, informative meeting.

TFC’s representatives were Cerwin and me, Larry Apple (VP of Corporate Relations), Chaplain Hank Rader, and Gary (Director of Church and Community Relations) and Pearl Nussbaum.

Traveling

To Mid-America Trucking Show, Louisville, Kentucky

Monday March 19 & Tuesday, March 20

1 (2)

Preparing to enter Blue Mountain Tunnel, the first of four when traveling east to west on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

1 (3)

Because we had 600 miles ahead of us, we left on Monday afternoon so Tuesday’s drive would not be so long.

1 (1)

You enter Kittatinny Tunnel almost as soon as exiting Blue Mountain.

1 (4)

It was a beautiful afternoon for traveling.

1 (5)

1 (6)

We went through a short period of rain just before 4:00 p.m.

1 (8)

The Allegheny Tunnel is the last tunnel on the Turnpike. I was either sleeping or forgot to take a picture in the Tuscarora Mountain Tunnel.

We had a motel reserved in Somerset, Pennsylvania, and after checking in, enjoyed supper at a nearby restaurant.

2 (1)

We weren’t on the road very long on Tuesday morning, when we saw flashing lights, indicating that someone was in trouble.

2 (2)

I suppose they had been speeding.

2 (3)

2 (4)

I love heading south in late March, because it gives me a preview of what will soon be happening in our area.

2 (6)

2 (7)

2 (9)

Entering Cincinnati, Ohio

2 (10)

2 (11)

Cerwin was the first to notice this trailer’s mud flaps.

2 (12)

We love seeing these when out on the road.

2 (13)

When traveling around Cincinnati, I mentioned to Cerwin that I am surprised there weren’t any accidents, as many people were traveling fast and often changing lanes.

2 (14)

However, we didn’t see an accident until a short time after entering Louisville in the late afternoon. This car must have pulled out in front of a truck, resulting in being t-boned. The truck is just to the right of the photo.

Again, just before getting to our motel on the other side of Louisville, we saw where two vehicles had collided. It looked like a delivery truck had stopped because of a traffic jam and the car behind it didn’t get stopped in time.

~~~
We praise the Lord for our safety while traveling to Louisville.
