Our Weekend
I wasn’t near wireless hookup since Saturday morning, so will post the weekend in one entry.
The scene on the windshield of the TFC Promotional Chapel gives you an idea of our weekend weather.
We arrived in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, about 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon where we met Sam Rittenhouse (TFC Associate for Chaplain Care) and took the chapel to an area where the directors of several “special needs” homes asked us to show the chapel to their residents.
Cerwin and Sam putting the steps into the storage area of the trailer following that one-hour stop. The director was grateful, and the residents were quite interested in our rig.
From there we traveled a short distance to Family Worship Center (also Lansdale) where the chapel was parked for Truckers’ Weekend.
Several local drivers brought their pretty rigs – despite the rainy weather.
The weather cleared a bit by the 5:00 p.m. pig roast supper.
Sam thought they served 200+ people.
We ate in the church’s gym.
Sam and his daughter Eunice made pretty table decorations.
After supper, we went to the sanctuary for a gospel concert.
Following a TFC update by Director of Chaplains, Bunny O’Hare, the Paul Fehr Family (father, daughter, two grandchildren) opened the program. Paul is a trucker who is active in TFC in the Lansdale area.
The Mark Trammell Trio was the featured group.
It was refreshing for my body and soul to sit and listen to good southern gospel music. They sang one song that grabbed my attention.
What good would a crown be in the presence of royalty?
Think about receiving a crown, then approaching the King of Kings with it on your head? I am sure we would remove it and place it at His feet.
~~~
Following the concert, we, Bunny and Peg O’Hare, and Chaplain David Weaver went home with Sam Rittenhouse. The O’Hare’s stayed with the Rittenhouse’s overnight, and we and David stayed next door with a Rittenhouse relative.
Today’s breakfast included a delicious, fresh fruit bowl. Sam said everything but the bananas came from his garden and orchard.
Left to right: Sam Rittenhouse, Peg & Bunny O’Hare, David Weaver, and Cerwin. Sam’s wife Alice was not feeling well and went back to bed following breakfast.
A scene from the breakfast table window. Sam’s backyard is filled with trees, vegetables, fruit, and flowers.
From the orchard – looking toward the house.
One of the few trees with apples that have not been picked. He makes gallons of cider.
Some of his remaining hanging flowers.
It’s the end of the season for many of his vegetables and fruit, but the fig trees are still full of fruit.
It was fun to take pictures in the drizzle, because everything looked extra pretty with droplets of water.
The fuschia are almost finished blooming, but I could easily find some beautiful blooms.
It was a fairly restful weekend – even though we were away from home.
But don’t just listen to God’s word.
You must do what it says.
Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
There Are Five Grandchildren Here Tonight
Their mom and dad are enjoying an evening break by going out to eat (to celebrate his birthday), then joining her coworkers from the doctor’s office at the Kirk Cameron movie, Fireproof, that opened tonight.
After supper, Josh practiced darts in Cerwin’s woodshop.
I helped Jana with a plastic canvas piece she started several weeks ago. She found a finished piece in my stitching box and wanted to make a similar one. I used to help Native girls make these when we taught summer Bible school at Pikagikum in Northwestern Ontario.
Later she helped Ian play Candyland on an old laptop.
Ian – eating a lifesaver gummy.
Jared – with ink on his forehead.
Ian and Jared playing GameCube.
Jesse just wandered around – carrying things, crawling over things, and looking cute.
Cerwin relaxed anytime there wasn’t someone on his lap or asking him to play a game.
It seems like a long time since they have been here. They have an in-house nanny since our granddaughter, Abigail came to Pennsylvania in August – but she left for our church’s youth retreat tonight.
Be cheerful no matter what.
Cerwin’s Trail Camera
A few weeks ago, Cerwin bought a Cabela’s trail camera that he attached to a tree in an area where he plans to go archery hunting. It snaps a photo when something moves in front of it.
I thought you may enjoy a few of the results.
Notice that there is also a deer in the background.
A real closeup!
We think this nighttime photo is the same buck because of similar brow tines (first points above its head).
Another nighttime photo.
The camera captured three in this shot.
Needless to say, we are having fun checking out the results. Cerwin goes to the spot about once a week, removes the camera card, inserts a new one, then brings the used one home so we can view the results on the computer.
A Surprise Visitor!
I was preparing a salad for supper when someone walked into the house through our small garage door. That in itself is not too unusual as several family members live nearby, but when I looked up to see who had entered, I was surprised! It was our grandson, Josiah – from Maine.
Josiah visiting with grandpa.
He and two friends spent the day driving here from Maine – to attend our church’s youth retreat this weekend. It was fun to spend some time with him, before he went to Jere and Kristen’s place for supper.
I’m still getting used to having postgraduate grandchildren who are mature enough to do this kind of thing.
Tune your ears to wisdom
and concentrate on understanding.
Heading Home Via the Sky
But first, another of Chaplain David’s delicious breakfasts. This time it was his fabulous cinnamon rolls. In this photo they are ready for the oven.
The walnut-flavored icing – waiting to top off the finished product.
I can’t believe that I resisted the temptation to eat more than half a roll.
On Dave and Laura’s front steps about 10:00 a.m. – before leaving for the Omaha airport.
One of the things I love about flying is seeing the fabulous landscapes of our country.
Approaching Chicago’s O’Hare Airport
Our carrier today was American – because that is where we had free air miles.
Some flights were late out of Omaha this morning due to fog, so we were glad our noon flight was right on time – as we had only eighty minutes layover in Chicago.
We need not have worried. Our gate of departure was the same one at which we arrived – giving us time to share a delicious quesadilla lunch in the restaurant next to our gate.
It was good to see the green mountains and landscape of Pennsylvania as we approached Harrisburg.
Seeing the Susquehanna River this close means we are near our home airport.
The sun was setting as we entered our driveway about 6:30 p.m.
