Granddaughters

This weekend happens to be a very late birthday celebration for our granddaughter Diana – and half-birthday celebrations for Jenna and Jana.  Gloria gets to come along for the fun.

Friday evening they decided to use my good dishes and crystal for supper – a meal which included macaroni and hamburger casserole, peas (with milk and butter), and dinner rolls.

Settling the table began with a “special” tablecloth which was hand-crocheted for me by a special TFC friend many years ago.

Following prayer, they decided to do a toast with their gingerale.

It is so much fun to have a girly weekend.

(More to follow tomorrow.)

 Grandparents’ Day

We had an enjoyable morning at Grandparent’s Day – for three of our grandchildren.

Our granddaughter Jana was one of the designers of the program covers.

Grandparents began gathering in the gym at 8:45 a.m. for coffee, orange juice, fruit, and pastry.

Their other grandma, Betty, was able to be there today because Elwood, a friend of the children, brought her.  She hurt her foot the other week and cannot drive.

After refreshments, we visited the children’s rooms.  First was Ian’s kindergarten room.

He gave us a laminated drawing of his hand…

It was more difficult to find eighth-grader Josh, who was not in a classroom, but helping grandparents find their grandchild’s classroom.

By 10:00 most of the grandparents were back in the gym waiting for the program to begin.

Jana (front left) waited on the sidelines until it was time for her class to present their part of the program.  She also helped to direct the first song, but I missed getting a photo.

Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is so good,

and by raising Jesus from death,

he has given us new life and a hope that lives on.

Autumn ~ Pain ~ Subway

Exclamation in the Sky

You can probably tell by my entries that I am finally having an uneventful week – AT HOME.  I’ve been busy enough in the office, babysat grandchildren a couple of times, visited Cerwin’s mom one evening, and our youngest daughter another evening, but it has been nice to have only soft deadlines this week instead of hard deadlines every day.

Today.JPG

The cooler days and coloring trees in our area are a sure sign of autumn.

Today (1).JPG

Many leaves are falling – even before they color – and make wonderful crunching sounds as we walk around our property.

Today (2).JPG

The cockscomb are displaying their prettiest red – before cold weather puts an end to their life for the season.

The week didn’t start out so ordinary, however.

When Cerwin woke up on Sunday morning (during our visit to Lansdale) he complained about pain in his left leg.  We didn’t think too much about it until breakfast time when he was in serious pain, went into a sweat, and turned very white.  After taking a pain pill and lying down for a bit, he felt pretty good for the rest of the day, and was able to drive the TFC chapel back to the shop.  The pain settled in his knee, and several times he mentioned that it felt numb.

Our children encouraged him to go to the doctor on Monday to make sure it wasn’t stroke or blood clot related.  That thought was kind of alarming.  We are both in our midsixties and have never had any serious health issues.  It was a relief when the doctor concluded that he had probably pulled a muscle or nerve when setting up the steps to the chapel during the weekend.

Today (3).JPG

Last night when we visited our youngest daughter Deb, she encouraged him to try her remedy of Polar Ice and a wrap.  He applied the jel and wrapped his knee before going to bed.  Today he has a lot less pain, and thinks it may have helped.

Today (4).jpg

Deb lives an hour away, so we picked up Subway subs on the way to her place on Wednesday evening and treated her to supper.

 My delicious roast beef sub.

Today (6).jpg

The reason for our visit was for Cerwin to measure her shop wall for shelves.  She owns her own layout and design business and needs some more storage space.

Today (7).JPG

I have no clue how this exclamation mark happened – but that is what I got when I took a picture of the sunset this evening!  I think maybe it was God’s way of trademarking his evening painting.

Exercise daily in God

—no spiritual flabbiness, please!

Workouts in the gymnasium are useful,

but a disciplined life in God is far more so,

making you fit both today and forever.
