Our Week

Sunday evening through Thursday evening

Because it took six entries to post last weekend, it’s time to fill you in on a few other activities from our week.

Sun-Thurs.JPG

 After getting home from taking the chapel back to TFC’s Office on Sunday afternoon, I walked through the woods to my sister’s house where she and her husband were hosting a baby shower for their youngest daughter Amy.

Sun-Thurs (1).JPG

 I got there after everyone had gone home, and just minutes before Amy and Kevin packed up all their new items.

Sun-Thurs (2).JPG

 On Tuesday morning, Lois & Harold Keller and Glenn & Rachel Fahnestock came to help label the single mailing of TFC’s Highway News and Good News (June issue).

 Cerwin is getting good at using his left arm and hand.

Sun-Thurs (6).JPG

 I told him that he is becoming ambidextrous.  He has been painting with his left hand – in preparation for putting the final coat of paint on our house on Monday – when the children come back for another painting party.

Sun-Thurs (7).JPG

 Thursday evening was “Pavilion Cleanup” for my siblings and some of our children.

Sun-Thurs (8).JPG

 I was weed-eating, and missed getting a photo of most of the raking of leaves or washing of tables.

Sun-Thurs (9).JPG

 After the work was done most of us took time to look at the neat scrapbook Dave and Laura made for our sister-in-law Brenda (in red).  Laura is Brenda’s daughter.  My sister-in-law Dot and stepmother, Velma, are the two looking at the book.

Sun-Thurs (10).JPG

Sun-Thurs (11).JPG

 Then it was time for the real reason we get together – to eat!  Everybody brings food or drink.

 We don’t even bother with tablecloths on this night, because everything has just been scrubbed.

 When I watch these two (my brother Dale and our son Jere), I am always reminded of their similarities.  Jere even has some of Dale’s facial expressions.

 It’s been a warm, beautiful week.

A Work & Painting Party

Saturday, May 16

Part Five

Featuring “Gloria’s Tooth” and “Teaching Roy to Play Four Square”

1.JPG

Gloria was quite pleased to pull a tooth – all by herself – while the rest of us were eating supper.  (She reminded me last night that I still hadn’t posted this picture.)

1 (1).JPG

I was sure that you were anxious to see her tooth.

1 (2).JPG

Sometime during the day, Diana, Jana, and Jenna discovered that Roy had never played four square – so they decided this was his evening to learn.

1 (3).JPG

 If you have been following our painting saga, you may remember that it was supposed to rain all day.  Supper is over and it still has not rained at our house.

1 (4).JPG

I think Jenna has the four square court about ready.

1 (5).JPG

Ready to go!

1 (6).JPG

I’m not sure who took these photos.  It wasn’t me.  Whoever it was did a good job.  I’m thinking it may have been Gloria, because she is not in any of these pictures.

 I must ask the girls how Roy did at the game.

~~~
Guess what.  It began raining about the same time the last car left our driveway.  Deb said they drove through a nasty thunderstorm on the way home.
Methinks that God was good to us today.
A Work & Painting Party
Saturday, May 16
Part Four
Featuring Jared’s Birthday Party…
2.JPG
Because we were all going to be in one place, Jere and Kristen decided to celebrate Jared’s fifth birthday after the painting party supper.
2 (1).JPG
I picked up a few balloons…
2 (2).JPG
…and asked the girls to help me decorate the garage to make it look festive.
Because of the damage to Cerwin’s shoulder (from his fall last week), we decided to not put carpet on the floor.
2 (3).JPG
When grocery shopping, I noticed a small box of gum balls, and thought they would make a fun decoration on the tables.
2 (5).JPG
They were a hit with the children.
2 (6).JPG
Before prayer, Cerwin thanked everyone for their help.
An update on his shoulder:  He had an MRI last night, and today the doctor told him there appears to be damaged tissue – which means he must see a specialist.  That appointment is June 1.
2 (7).JPG
Thanking the Lord.
2 (9).JPG
The supper menu included lasagna, fresh asparagus, seven-layer salad, deviled eggs, red beet eggs, rhubarb salad, and potato chips.
2 (11).JPG
Then it was time for Jared’s cards and gifts.  He loved the singing cards.
2 (13).JPG
The monster truck (Grave Digger) music and sounds were so cute.
2 (14).JPG
He had to cover his eyes before getting the gift from Aunt Debbie.
2 (15).JPG
A foam sword!  Just what he wanted.
2 (16).JPG
This bag is almost as tall as him.
2 (17).JPG
2 (18).JPG
Right now his favorite cartoon is Tom and Jerry.
2 (19).JPG
2 (20).JPG
It’s so much fun to celebrate the birthday of a five-year-old.
Tomorrow night will be the final entry of our work and painting party saga – featuring “Gloria’s Tooth” and “Teaching Roy How to Play Four Square.”
A Work & Painting Party
Saturday, May 16
Part Three
Featuring the youngest children…
1.JPG
 While the overhang of our house roof was being given a primer coat, there was a lot of other activity going on in our yard.  Notice Diana on the left – preparing to make a running leap.
 1 (1).JPG
1 (2).JPG
 I’m thinking how many bones I would break if I did this, but it is exactly what I would have been doing at her age.
 Jared checking out the step ladder.
1 (4).JPG
 Gloria, Ian, and Jared playing a yard game of some sort.
1 (5).JPG
 Jesse was content where ever there was water.
1 (6).JPG
 He got this old spoon from the play area under the pine tree.
1 (7).JPG
 These two buckets of water were in the yard, incase it was needed at the burn pile.
1 (8).JPG
 Who says we need an expensive pool for children to have fun with water.
1 (9).JPG
 He played here for a long time – dipping water from one bucket to the other.
1 (10).JPG
 It was especially fun for him to give Gloria a bucket full of water for the mud pies she and Jared were making under the tree.
1 (11).JPG
1 (12).JPG
1 (13).JPG
  That takes me back sixty years when I loved to make mud pies on the rarely-traveled road next to my dad’s barn.
1 (14).JPG
Tomorrow night I will post pictures of our supper and birthday party for Jared.
A Work & Painting Party
Saturday, May 16
Part Two
The saga of our painting day continued…
Paint 2.JPG
Chris (left) talking to Cerwin and Jeff, stopped in on her way home from clerking an auction, to pick up Nathan for his evening job at the Heisey farm.
Paint 2 (1).JPG
Jenna helped with scraping some of the top parts of the door, while Jana continued doing her part.
Paint 2 (3).JPG
We were thankful our children decided to risk the job of painting.  It was the middle of the afternoon by now, and still no rain.
Paint 2 (2).JPG
Josh and Jere came a short time after Roy and Deb.
Jere had some things to do at home first, as he just arrived home the night before, after spending a week in Poreč, Croatia.  He was there to participate in ICAR’s General Assembly and Workshop.  ICAR is International Committee for Animal Recording.
Paint 2 (4).JPG
The girls putting the primer coat on the shed door.
Paint 2 (5).JPG
Paint 2 (6).JPG
The three men, Jeff, Jere, and Roy are on the home stretch – the north side of the house.  It was almost time for supper, and still no rain.
I don’t know how many times we said, “I can’t believe they got the primer paint on the entire house.”  Because rain was forecast, then didn’t happen, they only started after lunch.
Paint 2 (7).JPG
And look at the burn pile – it is almost gone.
~~~

It felt so good to have these two jobs completed.

Thank you!

Thank you!

~~~
Paint 2 (8).JPG
There was just one more thing to do.  Diana got a boost from Roy to do her inspection and clean up of any stray paint.
Paint 2 (9).JPG
Tomorrow night I will show you what the four youngest children did while the adults painted.
