Celebrating Jeff & Chris’ Twentieth Wedding Anniversary
Sunday Evening, June 20, 2010
(Their Anniversary Date is June 30)
When a family dinner fell apart because Deb was in the hospital due to emergency gall bladder surgery, and Kristen was ill from a bug she picked up in Latvia, Jeff and Chris invited us for a light evening snack.
(By the way, Deb and Kristen are doing well today – one week later.)
Jeff surprised Chris with her favorite cake – everything chocolate. There were twenty flowers.
A kiss from Chris to say, “Thank you.”
Next surprise! First he pretended he was giving her a gun by putting his gift to her in a gun case. I don’t think she was totally surprised that it wasn’t a gun – but for the record she is a hot shot and has hit the mark many times whether it was a varmint or a deer.
She was surprised, and after opening the package, kept saying, “Oh, Jeff, you didn’t.”
It was so much fun to watch him surprise her.
He said he had been “listening” for the past year or two to find something really special for her for their twentieth anniversary. So one day when they were shopping and looking at watches, and she said, “If I could have any watch in the store, it would be this one” – he knew what he was getting for her.
Time for the delicious cake and the rest of our Sunday evening dessert.
But first they had to cut it – just like on their wedding day.
Another kiss
A few family pictures
Nathan, Jenna, Gloria, Chris, Diana, Jeff, and Jordan
This one is my favorite.
When Nathan left for a youth activity and informed us that he was going to “burn some rubber.” I said, “Wait until I get my camera.” If you look close you can see the back tire is already beginning to smoke.
Oh, dear. He’s just like his father.
While visiting in the yard, someone noticed this baby robin had fallen to the ground.
Diana climbed the tree and discovered it was the only baby in the nest.
Jeff picked it up with a cloth – to not let a human scent on it – and handed it to Diana.
Later in the evening it fell out again. This time Jeff took it across the road to some tall grass. The mother and father robin almost attacked him. Jeff felt like it was not safe in their yard, because it kept moving toward the road. Also, they have cats who would soon find it. The parents attended to their baby all evening. I wonder if it survived the night.
Gloria, Jenna, and Diana wanted a picture of them swinging.
A few pictures of Jeff and Chris
The setting sun made it difficult to get a good photo.
I like this one best.
While the rest of us visited, Cerwin and Jeff went to White Oak Mills (a few miles away). Jeff was preparing his truck for the Truck Rally, and wanted to show his Dad the new lights and chrome. (Photo by Cerwin.)
It was a fun evening for this mama.
Your love, God, is my song, and I’ll sing it! I’m forever telling everyone how faithful you are. I’ll never quit telling the story of your love.

Telling Children About Trucks and TFC
Sunday, June 20
We arrived at Manheim BIC before 8:30 a.m. to help prepare for a special lesson for the grade school children.
Sherry Stoner was instrumental in setting up this event. Sherry, I appologize for not having a photo of you.
It did not work out for us to take TFC’s promotional chapel because Chaplain Jake Wise had previously scheduled it for his church. (If you receive TFC’s Highway News and Good News, look for an interesting “God thing” that happened to Jake when he was taking the chapel from Macungie to his home church.)
Will and Sherry Stoner’s truck.
This was not a posed photo! Trent was pretending to be talking on the CB. He loves trucks.
After getting out of the truck he wanted his sip cup.
After prayer we were introduced to the children. They are going through a special summer series on how we can serve God through our talents and hobbies.
Gene talked about growing up and wanting to be a truck driver – and his eventual involvement with Transport For Christ. (He is our Truck Rally coordinator.) He remembers hearing about missionaries when he was a child, but he didn’t want to ride a camel in Africa – he wanted to be a truck driver. He didn’t want to ride a donkey in South America – he wanted to be a truck driver.
Cerwin shared a few things about truckers and TFC.
Will and his dad Geof Stoner told about their love for restoring old trucks – and how God does that in our lives if we allow him to change us.
Dale Harnish, dispatcher for a trucking company, shared about his work and how serving the Lord affects his job.
Afterwards we went outside to see the trucks.
Geof Stoner’s Truck
They loved the air horns!
Gene & Rose Gehman’s truck
Geof Stoner’s tow truck
We went back inside for a snack of truck cookies (baked by Sherry) and a teaching video.
Rose Gehman served lemonade.
Before going home, they were encouraged to bring their parents and siblings and tell them what they learned about truckers and trucks.

Trying out the sleeper
We and several truckers enjoyed lunch at Gene and Rose’s house. Sherry Stoner is on this picture – she is on the left of the two ladies seated in the center. Wil is standing behind them.
Everyone brought something for the covered dish lunch.
It was a delightful morning and afternoon.
We thank you, God, we thank you— your Name is our favorite word; your mighty works are all we talk about.
Psalm 75:1 (The Message)
We had another great Truck Rally. I’m too tired to post photos tonight.

For those looking for Truck Rally pictures, it will be a few days before I can go through the 1,000 pictures I took – plus I have a few more activities to post before I get to the Truck Rally.
Praise him for his acts of power, praise him for his magnificent greatness.

Macungie Antique Truck Show
Friday & Saturday, June 18 & 19
We arrived at the show about 3:00 p.m. Friday to replace Chaplain Jake Wise who was manning the chapel until we got there. Cerwin and Jake had taken the chapel to Macungie on Thursday.
I decided to choose some of my favorite pictures, and make only one post – even though I took almost 200 pictures.
Enjoy a trip into the past with some of these interesting, beautiful old trucks.
There was an area where vendors had all kinds of parts for sale.
This was the view from the chapel door before we went to bed on Friday night. We slept in the living quarters of the chapel.
I enjoyed coffee and the sights and sounds of the grounds while working on my laptop early Saturday morning.
How is that for a comfortable seat?
We enjoyed watching these two men start this old fire truck.
You can see our friends Wil and Geof Stoner – pulling Wil & Sherry’s son Trent in the wagon. It was partly due to these two men that we were invited to bring the chapel to the show. Notice the excellent spot that we were given. It felt like we were given the best spot on the grounds.
Many people thanked us for being there and told us the chapel was a great addition to the show.
There were 595 registered trucks.
We had a steady stream of visitors inside and outside the chapel.
Cerwin liked this chain-drive truck.
Chaplain George Freeman this picture for you. We enjoyed visiting with your friend Denis Yaworski.
Geof Stoner leaving the grounds.
Chaplain Jake Wise and his son Jesse (seated right) came to relieve us on Saturday afternoon. Jake planned to stay to watch some of the trucks leaving, then he was taking the chapel to his home church where he was sharing about the ministry on Sunday morning.
~~~
If you live in southeastern Pennsylvania, and need something to do tomorrow – Saturday, June 26 – come see us at the Lebanon Expo Center for the Truck Rally.
We just got home from Friday night setup. We desire prayer for safety as there will be many trucks and people on the grounds.
A Birthday & A Bike
Wednesday, June 16 & Thursday June 17
Nathan’s seventeenth birthday party
While waiting for cake and ice cream, our daughter-in-law Chris (green shirt) and her mother, Lois, picked raspberries. Mary Jane (neighbor and adopted mother) and I watched. I picked a few, but mostly took pictures.
There were many nice raspberries.
Jeff and Chris recently made this rope trellis for their pole beans.
Party time!
Nathan lighting his candles
You can see the results of sunburn on his face – as he had just returned from a few days at the beach.
Yum! Red Velvet Cake
Opening presents
I love birthday parties!
Jared – A new bike
~~~
We stopped at Jere & Kristen’s the next day, where Jared quickly showed us his new bike.
