If any of you wants to serve me, then follow me. Then you’ll be where I am, ready to serve at a moment’s notice. The Father will honor and reward anyone who serves me. [Jesus]

Friends & Banquets

Friday & Saturday, March 25 & 26

  3-25-11 LHNM (3)

Last weekend began when we attended Living Hope Native Ministries Banquet at Yoder’s Restaurant, New Holland, Pennsylvania. Following the meal, Merle Nisly gave an interesting update on what is happening win LHNM.

We enjoy attending this annual banquet with friends Gary & Orpha and Ray & Eva, because we all served as team leader’s from our church when we taught summer Bible School at Pikagikum (a first nation reserve in Ontario, Canada) in the mid-eighties to the early nineties.

We were delighted to hear encouraging reports from Colleen who is now serving as a fulltime missionary at Pikagikum.

3-26-11 a Merle & Rita - breakfast (13)

Saturday morning we had breakfast with Merle & Rita Nisly, CEO of Living Hope Native Ministries (right). We became friends with Merle & Rita because they were our contact (he was usually our pilot to the reserve) from Red Lake.

Left to right: Cerwin, Gary & Orpha Stevens, Eva & Ray Nolt, and Merle & Rita. You can see me (my teal sweater) in the mirror taking the picture.

Saturday evening we went back to Yoder’s for TFC’s Lancaster Chapter Dinner Concert. The ladies were busy setting the tables when we arrived.

By 6:00 p.m. everyone was seated and enjoying a delicious meal.

We had a great attendance – 551 people. You may recognize some of our family members at the closest table.

Breakthrough was our featured concert artists.

They did a great job on all their songs, but my favorite were when these two played harmonica.

The highlight of the evening was when Shawn shared his journey from being raised in an ungodly, gypsy home, to being in a serious accident – doctors did not give his family any hope that he would live, and when he lived, they said he would never walk again. His three-year-old son died in the accident.

The accident happened at TFC’s Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Chapel, consequently Chaplain Bunny O’Hare became involved in his life and eventually was instrumental in leading him to the Lord.

Today Shawn is back to driving truck.

I didn’t think I would ever get this information posted!

Because of multitasking, something happened when I put the camera card in my laptop. Everything was erased, and the computer would not recognize the card. I have a photo rescue file, and that didn’t work either.

My computer told me that I needed to format the card, but then I knew I would erase the photos – but eventually I did that. Still no photos. Then I formatted the card in my camera, and I was able to rescue pictures from October to the current ones I was looking for.

Now we are traveling, and the motel’s internet was down last night until about an hour ago.

~~~
I’ll give you a hint – the northeast is having snow, but we are seeing beautiful cherry blossoms.
If I can get online tonight, I let you know where we are.
Congratulations, Jeff
Twenty-five Years of Safe Driving!
Tonight, March 30
1 Jeff (1)
Tonight we joined the celebration of Jeff’s accomplishment. (He said it is actually twenty-seven years, because White Oak Mills only began keeping records twenty-five years ago.)
Gloria designed this large poster for the party.
This was included on the poster. I discovered it last week when looking for something concerning our Hershey heritage, and emailed it to Jeff. He did this artwork on the back of a bulletin during a church service in November 1973. He had just turned nine. It looks like he even had trucking in his blood when he was young.
1 Jeff (6)
Gloria drew this picture of Jeff hunting from a tree stand.
1 Jeff (7)
It looks like he had a good hit, because the deer is bleeding profusely.
Jeff & Chris’ nickname for Diana is “Squirt.”
Mary Jane, Jeff, and Cerwin waiting for supper. Jeff still had no idea that the party was for him. He thought it was a birthday party for Jenna.
1 Jeff (11)
Can you guess what this is? It’s one of Gloria’s experiments.
1 Jeff (12)
It contains dirt, earthworms, and a banana peel.
Gloria says that eventually the earthworms will turn the banana peel into dirt.
1 Jeff (13)
Chris said that she is getting impatient for spring and needed some color in her house.
Nate took a few pictures, and this one of us was a result of his photography.
1 Jeff (21)
Mary Jane was the one who set up this party. She thought that twenty-five years of safe driving was worth celebrating. I agree.
She is their adopted neighborhood mother.
1 Jeff (22)
Reading the card from us. I used the photo of his 1973 artwork for the cover.
It was a great day and a great celebration. I love celebrating wise children and grandchildren.
Snow and Ice On Our Spring Flowers
Wednesday, March 23
3-23-11 Snow, birds, Jesse, rain (1)
I felt sorry for our pretty crocus and spring flowers last Wednesday.
3-23-11 Snow, birds, Jesse, rain (17)
There was a bit of snow on the bird house.
3-23-11 Snow, birds, Jesse, rain (19)
Our first daffodil was drooping from the weight of the icy water.
3-23-11 Snow, birds, Jesse, rain (23)
The cold and ice seem harsh on our new vegetation.
This hyacinth was protected under the house roof.
It was warm inside and Jesse was hungry for a snack from Grandpa’s snack box.
Despite the weather, it was a busy day for the birds.
I like cold, rainy days when I can stay inside…
Interview With a Lady Involved in Trucking
Tuesday, March 22
Nancy Sensenig (2)
Early last week Inge (Highway News Editor) and I traveled to the home of Nancy Sensenig to do an interview for the May issue of the Highway News & Good News. We like to feature a woman who is involved in the world of trucking for the month of Mother’s Day.
Nancy Sensenig (1)
She has a lot of fun memories of trucking when she was young.
Nancy Sensenig (3)
When Inge asked a question that she could not answer, she asked her husband, Harry, to join the interview. Harry and Nancy are in their seventies.
Nancy Sensenig (4)
Nancy and her first husband Dale Graham founded their business when they were young. She began driving truck to help get their business going – so they wouldn’t have to hire a driver.
Nancy Sensenig (5)
They have about twenty trucks and deliver a variety of products.
Nancy Sensenig (6)
Nancy Sensenig (7)
Nancy Sensenig (8)
This Mack is the pride and joy of Nancy’s son who oversees the business.
Nancy Sensenig (14)
Nancy no longer drives truck, but knows almost everything about her business.
Nancy Sensenig (15)
  Nancy Sensenig (17)
Harry held one of their dogs while Inge finished the interview.
Nancy Sensenig (18)
A granddaughter does any office work that requires a computer.
Nancy Sensenig (19)
Nancy spends many hours at her office desk – paying bills and dispatching drivers.
Nancy Sensenig (20)
In her early days of trucking she and her husband hauled milk, and picked it up in milk cans.
Nancy Sensenig (21)
This one is a bit smaller that the ones she had to pick up. When full of milk, a can weighs about ninety pounds. She isn’t much heavier than that.
Harry and Nancy took us out for lunch following the interview. We had a delightful time visiting with them.
I was purposely vague in giving details, because some of you will be receiving this Highway News in April.
To read any issue of the Highway News online, go to www.transportforchrist.org and click on Highway News Online (on the left). Then choose the issue. This will be in the May issue. It should be online by April 22.
