Activity At TFC’s Exhibitor Booth

Mid-America Truck Show

Friday, April 1

Part 4

I’m including a few pictures that will give you an idea of the activity at our booth.

1a (2)

It was a rare moment that we didn’t have a visitor.

This man lives only a few miles from us and knows Chaplain Tom and Janis Kemp from Seattle. We had never met prior to this.

There are times when I should just keep my mouth shut.

When Leonard (second from left) walked up to our booth, I knew that I should recognize him, so asked, “How do I know you?”

1a (13)

He said, “From church.” Our church is fairly large, but I still should have recognized him. However, I had never seen him in casual dress (at least that is my excuse). Now looking at this picture, I cannot imagine that I didn’t know who he was.

1a (14)

The display across the aisle from us was how I usually located our booth, as it went to the ceiling and was noticeable when I got within a few aisles.

While I was touring North Hall, Cerwin went to the Day of Prayer in Papa John’s Stadium. (I opted to stay inside because it was quite cold outside.) In this photo Sharon Benson is singing while her husband, Jerry, adjusts the sound.

There was free coffee and donuts for the drivers who attended. Cerwin took these three pictures with his camera.

After both of us returned to the TFC booth, Cerwin took my camera and toured the hall with Gary Nussbaum (left). In this photo they are visiting with Bob (center) an executive with Roady’s, and Brent (right) an executive with Truckers’ News.

Back at our booth, Cerwin took a few more pictures before returning the camera to me.

Venturing Out On My Own

Mid-America Truck Show

Friday, April 1

Part 2

a (1)-1

We had barely gotten inside West Hall on Friday morning when Chaplain Hank Rader introduced us to TFC Board Member Kreigh Spahr and his son from Ohio.

Kreigh is a fairly new board member whom I had never met (Cerwin met him at the International Office).

He and I have communicated by email, so it was great to talk to them a bit, and pray for his son who was hoping to find a job in the trucking industry during this show.

a (2)

After helping set up our booth, I decided to venture off on my own, before the doors opened to the public. First I went to the Pavilion area where there were antiques and food.

This was the oldest pickup truck – a 1926  Ford.

a (8)

After leaving the Pavilion, I walked through West Hall where the TFC booth was located, and checked out some of the vendors. I took this photo, because most of our chapels are placed at Petro and TA truck stops.

a (9)

Need a new truck seat? There were several displays and varieties – all claiming to be the best.

a (10)

Locating South Hall was quite a feat for me. I don’t do well with directions inside large buildings, but kept following the black and grey carpet and following signs.

a (11)

I thought this would be a great vehicle for me.

I could use it to take mailings to the post office – a mile and a quarter from our house – and for going to Curves.

a (12)

If it was mine, I figure I could find a grandchild who would love to borrow it on occasion.

a (13)

I was fascinated by the interior of this trailer. I expect it is designed for hogs or small animals.

a (15)

A flatbed

a (15a)

If I remember correctly, this was a moving van – for moving an entire houseload of furniture and supplies.

a (17)

This building was filled with beautiful displays of all kinds of trucks and trailers.

a (19)

a (20)

a (21)

This disco-type light (from the ceiling) moved in a circular motion on the carpet. Several of the “big boys” in truck manufactures used this style advertisement.

a (22)

As I walked by an entrance/exit door and looked through the large, main entrance to the truck show, I noticed that the sun was creating a beautiful scene in the parking lot.

The entrance area was full of people waiting for the show to start. It was kind of nice to exit and enter South Hall without anyone stopping me because I had a yellow stripe on my name tag – indicating that I was a vendor.

More tomorrow evening.

Mid-America Truck Show

Where We Have Been For the Past Three Days

Thursday Through Saturday, March 31 – April 2

Part 1

Now that the show is over (at Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville, Kentucky), I have time to catch my breath and post a few pictures.

1 (1)

After checking into our motel on Thursday afternoon, we went to the Expo Center and located the TFC booth (with the help of Gary Nussbaum and our cell phones) where we found Pearl Nussbaum visiting with a friend.

1 (2)

Cerwin and Gary Nussbaum’s first job after our arrival was to hang the lighted cross we brought along. We have this available because it was designed for the new chapel that Cerwin and his crew are building – but has not yet been installed.

1 (3)

It was a great addition and eye-catcher to our area.

1 (4)

Because there were three people to man the booth, we walked to South Hall (we were in West Hall) to look for R.H. Sheppard where our future son-in-law, Roy, works.

Along the way we saw interesting vehicles, some used to advertise a product.

1 (5)

1 (6)

Finding R.H. Sheppard was not an easy task (and took several misturns), as there was one million square feet of indoor exhibit space with 1,040 exhibitors.

1 (8)

We talked to Tony, and discovered that he knows Roy quite well as they often travel together on business trips.

He extended his sympathy to us when we told him that Roy is marrying our daughter. However, he told us they love Deb – especially her cooking.

1 (8a)

This beautiful Western Star was not far away, and while I was trying to find a good angle to take a picture, I noticed that Cerwin was talking to Facebook friends.

1 (9)

Andy and Rosetta Miller from Ohio and their youngest child.

I told Andy that I thought this rig would be a good addition to their logging business. He wasn’t sure it would do well on mountain roads. His brother Mahlon and his wife were also there, but I didn’t think to take a picture.

2 (2)

A unique part of this truck is its leather accessories.

2 (3)

2 (5)

3

We got back to our booth about an hour later, and just before closing time, as I was perched on one of our high, captain chairs handing out Highway News, I said hi to this lady, and she looked at me and said, “Doris?”

It was Carolyn Kropf from Colorado – a Facebook friend whom I had never met. It was delightful to talk to her for a few minutes.

~~~
The show closed at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. After closing our booth, we went to Applebee’s for supper with Gary and Pearl (TFC Director of Church and Community Development, Dalton, Ohio) and Chaplain Hank Rader (Knoxville, Tennessee).
More tomorrow
Arriving At Our State of Destination
Thursday, March 31
We began seeing snow about the time we got to the first tunnel on the Pennsylvania turnpike.
Then we traveled in fog for a bit.
By the time we entered our city of destination the banks beside the road were daffodill-lined instead of snow-lined.
