Cerwin’s mother is home from the hospital – and we are not any wiser as to why she had pain in her upper chest. Thanks for your prayers and concern.

I Love Creative Grandchildren!
Three grandsons were sleeping at our house last night – and all wanted to sleep in the guest room. The room is set up with a single bed and trundle. Jordan (left) figured that if they put the single beds fairly close together, a single mattress from the attic would fit on top – and there would be room for everyone. Real clever I thought!
It worked pretty well until they started clowning – and Josh (in the middle) hit the floor! It was so funny. Consequently Nathan (right) lowered his bed – the trundle – and turned it the other direction with part of it under the single bed. They did the same thing with Josh’s mattress. I think they went to sleep after that!
This is what happened when Nathan got a hold of my camera this morning!
Chuck-E-Cheese’s
…a combination birthday gift and reward for faithfully helping Grandpa with TFC chapel construction and helping with our downed trees.
After two hours of nonstop game playing we did a bit of shopping, then went to the hospital to visit their Great Grandma. (I told her yesterday that I was bringing three young men to see her.) She enjoyed their visit, and it was good for them to visit the ICU. They were intrigued by the monitors displaying her heart beat, pulse, blood pressure, etc.
What fun to spend a day with these guys!
Cerwin’s Mother Passed all Her Tests!
The doctor said she has the heart of an eighteen-year-old, and they could not find any other problems. Cerwin just returned from the hospital and said she was sitting on a chair. He expects that the nurses may soon have her walking. On the downside, we don’t know why she was having so much pain on Saturday night. Thanks for praying.
Cerwin Liked This Grandchild Story
Yesterday when our son Jeff and his wife Chris were here, Chris told us a cute story on Gloria.
The other day when Chris was combing her, Gloria said, “I wish my hair was grey.” Chris said she was a bit surprised, but asked, “Why do you wish you’re hair was grey?”
“Then I would look like Grandpa High.”
Apparently she is impressed by his hair!
On the way home from the hospital this afternoon, we stopped to pick up Josh, who is spending the night here with his cousins Jordan and Nathan.
Just after we got here Jeff and Chris stopped in with their boys.
Jeff was talking about listening to NASCAR when he got home, so I suggested they stay and watch it here. Jeff looked at Chris and asked what her plans were for the afternoon. She was hoping to go for a walk. I said we could walk together. So – we went for a walk while the men watched the race.
I am used to walking alone, so it was a treat to walk with someone.
Two miles and forty-five minutes later we were back home, just in time to see the end of the race. Before long they decided to go home, and as we were in the driveway saying goodbye to them, I noticed our sister-in-law Brenda walking up the road.
What was I thinking?
I asked if she wanted a walking partner.
This time we walked the opposite direction and had a great time visiting as well as as getting in some good walking exercise.
Four miles of walking was great exercise, but believe me, I did not look for any more walking partners today!
Thanks for your concern for Mother High. We had a good visit with her this afternoon. She had a good day and is feeling better. There will be tests tomorrow.
Pray for Cerwin’s Mother
She had chest pains early this morning and was taken to the hospital emergency room at 1:30 AM.
She is stable now and in a regular room. Cerwin’s sister and her husband were with her and just left the hospital. They called us about 1:30 AM, but we were sleeping and didn’t hear the call.
Cerwin just talked to her. He asked if she would like us to come in this morning, or give her time to sleep. She said she needs sleep, so we’ll go to see her after church.
She is almost 88 years old and has a Pacemaker due to previous heart problems.
Cleanup Again
Jeff and Cerwin
Cerwin enlisted the help of our two sons and local grandchildren to clean up the trees that fell earlier this week during the storm.
Jere had fire duty.
Josh and Nathan helped him keep the fire going with lots of leaves and branches. I’m not sure how I missed getting a picture of Jordan – he was the one who loaded the logs on his dad’s pickup truck.
Ian and Jana opted to play “Cars” on the GameCube. I think Ian would play that all day long!
Jared watched his favorite video – “There Goes a Truck.”
Later in the morning Jared, Jenna, Jana, and Gloria took a walk to the pavilion to see the damage, now that the tree is removed. My brother and his sons did that job earlier in the week.
The men appreciated the help of Brian Dill, a neighbor we met the other week when the tree hit our house. He also got some of the wood.
Diana took care of helping with the final cleanup.
Our north yard is free of branches again – for awhile. My job was to keep everyone supplied with food and drink! They took a break at 10 AM and had lunch at noon. By that time the job was finished.
A few hours later the servicemen (there were two) from our local hardware store removed our old kitchen stove – which was fried on July 2 when the tree hit our electric wires and house.
The new one was installed just in time for me to bake stuffed chicken breasts for supper. I wanted a black stove, which was backordered in early July – the reason it took so long.
More Rain!
The corn is soon going to be ten feet tall!
Daylight ended with a pretty sky.
When I was taking this picture, I noticed something funny – another medium-sized branch had fallen where the men cleaned up this morning! I’m not sure Cerwin thought it was funny.
Corn
I’ve been feeling a bit guilty lately because some of my Xanga friends are freezing corn and entering sites that show how busy they’ve been, so I went to my brothers’ farm next door…
…and took pictures of my sister-in-law Brenda and her family preparing corn for the freezer!
Lisa, Laura (http://www.xanga.com/meettheflagpoles), Brenda, Andi,(http://www.xanga.com/jandag), and…
…someone who didn’t want to be identified! Need a hint? His Xanga sight is http://www.xanga.com/unicyclejack.
When I noticed that there were several more bags of unhusked corn, I made a quick getaway and headed to the TFC International Office to help Rose Gehman enter Ministry Material inventory on a spreadsheet for the auditor.

If you want a good cup of coffee, stop at the TFC International Office, Marietta, PA, and ask Howard Moses to brew you a cup! He could give Star Bucks a run for their money.
I Love Our Neighborhood
I just walked around our two-mile block – which is laid out in almost perfect half-mile roads.
Corn fields are lush and green.
I checked the height of a tall stand by stretching my arm over my head – it had to be more than nine feet tall.

I hadn’t gone far when I met a jogger going the opposite direction – a courteous young man I barely know, who said, “Good evening ma’am.”
After turning the first corner, I saw my oldest brother who was using a skid loader to feed the cows. We smiled and waved. The next half mile was quiet, with the exception of grunting, oinking hogs; an occasional loud bray from a donkey; and lots of singing birds.
I turned the second corner – and still hadn’t met a car. Then halfway through that section, I heard a car coming out the long, gravel driveway I had just passed. Before long I heard, “Hey, I know you!” I turned around. It was Ashleigh http://www.xanga.com/mghtymouse200211 who lives with my youngest brother’s family. We talked a bit, then went our separate ways.
A pickup truck passed me from behind – probably someone going home from work. When I passed the jogger’s house, he was in the yard teasing a young boy – probably a son. I called out, “You beat me home.” He laughingly shouted back, “Keep walking, you’ll soon be there.”
His neighbor was mowing yard; a pretty black and white duck quacked and waddled toward me as I walked by the field it shares with sheep and other fowl; a car came toward me – she waved – but I don’t know who it was; three young brothers were playing with a garden tractor and wagon.
I turned the third corner and noticed a downed tree – the result of Tuesday’s storm; a few cars passed me – I was now on the state road which has more traffic; it was quiet at the Amish farm – with the exception of a diesel engine which was probably cooling milk; just before turning the last corner, I met my nephew Neil – probably doing farm work because he was in the old beat-up pickup; then I was home.

Now I’m enjoying a glass of cold water and listening to a good concert on TV – from Branson, MO.
