That you will never abandon me

That you continue working out all the events in my day and life for my good

That nothing is too difficult for You

Especially For Katie in Haiti

I thought you would find these pictures encouraging!

2 (27)

While I was walking around the block the other week, I noticed Pepper’s empty doghouse.  It is so sad that she died while you are gone.

2 (29)

Look what they’ve done with your car!  It’s parked behind the shed, while the others are along the road.

And image this!  Your kind, sweet uncles, Clair and Cerwin, thought we should pile junk around it and put a for sale sign on it before I took the picture!

~~~
I just knew you would appreciate my “gift” of encouragement while you are far away to the south!
Orange Sunflowers!
DSC_0055.JPG
I was surprised to see these sunflowers at a rest stop on our way home from New York yesterday.  I had never seen orange ones.
Our closeup view across the street from the motel
We had a twelve-mile drive to the Lighthouse Chapel, which is located between the truck stop and Lily’s Restaurant.  Many trucks park on this dirt driveway between the chapel and the railroad tracks – the reason this chapel gets quite dirty.
DSC_0009.JPG
The main reason for this trip was to replace the ceiling tile.
DSC_0007.JPG
Nathan was Cerwin’s helper in removing the old tile…
DSC_0055.JPG
…and cutting the new ones.
DSC_0023.JPG
Jordan and I worked on the exterior.
DSC_0039.JPG
Look what happened when I polished the lower part of the chapel.
DSC_0062.JPG
Jordan had fun making a difference on the chapel’s appearance by polishing hubcaps (notice the difference between the left and right hupcap!), the bumper, quarter fenders, and the upper part of the chapel where a ladder was needed.
DSC_0044.JPG
We were encouraged that Jeff Stinson stopped by to talk.  He and his wife are faithful supporters of one of TFCs chaplains.  He thanked us for our part in giving the chapel some TLC.
DSC_0050.JPG
He enjoyed showing the guys his 2006 Wal-Mart Peterbilt.
DSC_0036.JPG
Nathan took this picture as a train went by – about 100 feet from the chapel.  We estimate that a train went by about once an hour.
DSC_0088.JPG
 We had our work finished about 4 PM – then took time for supper at Lily’s – next to the chapel.
DSC_0109.JPG
While in the restaurant we noticed by a tourist brochure that RT 295 looked like a more scenic way back to the motel – and it was!  We saw two flocks of turkey and several deer.  We even found a country road (above) along the way.
DSC_0113.JPG
The maple trees are beginning to turn red in that area of New York.
DSC_0116
We stopped to buy ice cream treats for our motel room freezer – to enjoy while we watched NASCAR later in the evening.  After the boys made their choice they ran up the hill in order to beat us to the motel.
DSC_0162.JPG
A thunderstorm arrived just after we got to our room.
DSC_0180.JPG
I was hoping to catch lightening zigzag across the sky – which is quite difficult with still photos.  Instead I captured a flock of fast moving Canadian Geese.
Our Trip to Canaan, NY
Friday, September 8
 1
Our first stop on Friday afternoon was the grade school where granddaughters Gloria and Diana attend.
It was the best place to meet Nate and Jordan’s bus – who were going along.  Our daughter-in-law, Chris, took the girls home.
1 (1).JPG
I spent most of the five-hour drive reading and studying for a future presentation, so both boys were pleased to have a computer.
1 (2).JPG
You can see by the reflection, that Jordan was playing Sorry.
1 (4).JPG
There were plenty of reminders to pray for our nation’s truck drivers as we traveled Interstates 81 and 84.
1 (3).JPG
It was a beautiful afternoon.
We saw close to fifty deer.  Half of them were at a prison field in New York where we usually see a large herd in the late afternoon.  The others were seen in small groups.
We especially enjoyed looking for deer during the one-hour drive on the Taconic Parkway – most of which was made in the dark.  The boys wanted me to get a photo, but every time we saw one close to the road, there was another car right in back of us, making stopping impossible.
 1 (6).JPG
We were glad to easily find Chatham Travel Lodge (photo by Jordan) where we had reservations for two nights.  It is a neat little (twelve-room) motel, nestled on a hillside overlooking beautiful Catskill mountain ranges.
We’re Off On A Road Trip
We’ll be in New York to do maintenance on another chapel.  If the motel or truck stop has WIFI, I’ll be in touch.
If not, I’ll be back soon.
Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association Picnic
TFC was honored to be invited to this local picnic.
Dealers and salesmen from most local truck-related companies were represented.  Cerwin knew many of them because of being involved in trucking for the past forty years, and said there were a lot of key people in attendance.
We were pleased to have a very prominent parking place.
I thought their location of standing in front of the chapel was rather neat, so asked them to pose for the next picture.
Scott was invited to share a short promotion on TFC and ask God’s blessing on the evening meal.
TFC staff in attendance:  Scott & Karen Weidner, Inge Koenig, Bunny & Peg O’Hare, Tom & Janis Kemp, Howard, Angie, Matt, & Brandy Moses, and Cerwin & Doris High.  Also, David Bond, a driver and TFC friend from Massachusetts, who was visiting Bunny & Peg.  I did not get any good pictures of our group .
DSC_0087.JPG
We enjoyed a delicious, buffet meal.
DSC_0076.JPG
The purpose of the evening was a time of relaxation and fun for the PMTA families.  Clowns, food, visiting, and door prizes made up the evening.  Three of our staff were pleased to be door prize winners:  Peg O’Hare (gift certificate to Park City), Howard Moses (tool box), and Angie Moses (gift certificate to Chili’s).
While the men were closing the chapel and putting the steps in storage boxes, some of us were intrigued by a spider weaving  a web.
The Newsletter is Ready for the Mail!
DSC_0013.JPG
Anna Dorwart, Paul Schildt, Dorothy Stauffer, Betty Stauffer, and Mary Schildt put tabs on the newsletters.  We were so grateful for the five people who came on short notice – after yesterday’s schedule had to be changed.
Ready for the Post Office.
The small stack on the left is a mailing for a banquet near Buffalo, NY, in early October.   I finished that one last night.  The large stack of 38 trays is what we prepared today.
~~~

Tonight we took the new mobile chapel to the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association Picnic.  We had a great evening, but I’m tired and ready for bed, so I’ll show you those pictures in the morning.

My Printer Is Working Again!

Daisies

Turns out there was a defective motherboard (mothers always seem to get blamed )

So now I am ready for our helpers to come and tab 5,588 newsletters shut – however instead of it suiting eight people, it only suits four.

~~~
if any of you who live in our area want something fun to do tomorrow morning – snack included – come on over – 9 AM to Noon.
The Peace Of God Is…
2 (15).JPG
Trusting Him to Keep His Promises
Understanding His Timing
~~~

I needed to practice trusting Him and understanding His timing today.

We were planning to mail The Extra Mile newsletter tomorrow, but, for the first time in sixteen years, I had to call those who were coming to help – and tell them I will call when it is ready.

~~~
My schedule for this newsletter seemed doomed from the beginning!
  • I almost canceled before I started writing it a few weeks ago – because I was so far behind in my office work – due to damage to our office equipment in July.
However, when we went to Western New York a few weeks ago, the writing came easy as I entered words in my laptop – while traveling.  The master went to the printer right on time.
  • I ordered forty EMM mail trays at the post office the other week, however when they came on Thursday, they were the wrong size.
Today I was able pick up the correct ones.
  • I don’t usually have a tough time getting volunteers, but so many seemed to have a scheduling conflict with tomorrow.
I even had two who said they could come, call today with a conflict.
  • Today, about lunchtime I prepared to print 5,588 addresses on newsletters with my brand new, Pitney Bowes printer.
I thought the printing would take me less than two hours.  The first four trays printed quickly, then without warning the machine died.  No power.
I unplugged every cord, rebooted anything that needed rebooted, but still nothing.  I hope to find out what is wrong when the technician comes tomorrow afternoon.
~~~

People can make many different plans.

But only the Lord’s plan will happen.
