Our closeup view across the street from the motel
AmBest Travel Plaza, Canaan, NY
We had a twelve-mile drive to the Lighthouse Chapel, which is located between the truck stop and Lily’s Restaurant. Many trucks park on this dirt driveway between the chapel and the railroad tracks – the reason this chapel gets quite dirty.
The main reason for this trip was to replace the ceiling tile.
Nathan was Cerwin’s helper in removing the old tile…
…and cutting the new ones.
Jordan and I worked on the exterior.
Look what happened when I polished the lower part of the chapel.
Jordan had fun making a difference on the chapel’s appearance by polishing hubcaps (notice the difference between the left and right hupcap!), the bumper, quarter fenders, and the upper part of the chapel where a ladder was needed.
We were encouraged that Jeff Stinson stopped by to talk. He and his wife are faithful supporters of one of TFCs chaplains. He thanked us for our part in giving the chapel some TLC.
He enjoyed showing the guys his 2006 Wal-Mart Peterbilt.
Nathan took this picture as a train went by – about 100 feet from the chapel. We estimate that a train went by about once an hour.
We had our work finished about 4 PM – then took time for supper at Lily’s – next to the chapel.
While in the restaurant we noticed by a tourist brochure that RT 295 looked like a more scenic way back to the motel – and it was! We saw two flocks of turkey and several deer. We even found a country road (above) along the way.
The maple trees are beginning to turn red in that area of New York.
We stopped to buy ice cream treats for our motel room freezer – to enjoy while we watched NASCAR later in the evening. After the boys made their choice they ran up the hill in order to beat us to the motel.
A thunderstorm arrived just after we got to our room.
I was hoping to catch lightening zigzag across the sky – which is quite difficult with still photos. Instead I captured a flock of fast moving Canadian Geese.
