Update on TFC’s New Chapel
It has been almost two months since I last posted photos of the chapel construction which Cerwin is overseeing.
~~~
The Exterior
Since I have several new Xanga friends, I’ll take you back to the beginning of February when Cerwin first backed this trailer into the shop at Transport For Christ, International, Marietta, PA.
Previous updates were 2/22/07 and 4/17/07. If you are interested in seeing those entries, scroll down to my posting calendar (left), enter one of the above dates, then click on “go”.
At the end of April, Cerwin prepared the exterior of the trailer/chapel for sandblasting and painting.
The trailer was delivered to a local sandblaster (who prefers to remain anonymous) on April 26.
Looking much better after sandblasting.
~~~
From there it was delivered to PV Transport, Hatfield, PA, who would be painting it.
Cerwin was pleased when he went back to pick it up several weeks later. If you need an awesome paint job ~ we can give you the contact information.
Back home at the shop near Marietta.
For those not familiar with Transport For Christ, this is our International Headquarters. The shop is on the left and the office on the right. The Overseas Office is located in Ontario, Canada, and the Canadian Office is located in New Brunswick, Canada.
There are also several field offices. I work out of the closest one ~ Office of Communications, which is about nineteen miles away. The Director of Church and Community Relations is based in Dalton, OH, the Director of Location Development lives in Mukwonago, WI, the Director of Development has his office in Hudsonville, MI, and the Associate for Chaplain Care lives in Lansdale, PA.

Some Extras for the Exterior of the Chapel
Mark’s business designs the crosses for our chapels. This chapel will get two of these ~ with LED lights attached.
Glenn Fahnestock installed new, LED, clearance lights.
Hezekiah Myers (our grandson) soldered connectors to the ground wire.
~~~
That brings us up-to-date on the exterior. Lettering is scheduled for the week of June 18.
~~~
The Interior
So you can appreciate the difference ~ this first photo was taken in February ~ before anything was done to the interior.
Paneling was installed ~ after framework, insulation, and rough wiring was complete.
Bill Rumpf and Ted McCoy ~ key construction volunteers ~ stained doors and trim.
The cabinets arrived from a local business.
Bill and Ted helped Cerwin install cabinets.
Photo taken in the office/living quarters.
Standing in the chapel ~ facing the office/living quarters.
Entrance area of the chapel.
Two of TFC’s Directors are also skilled electricians and helped with finishing the wiring. Left: Mike Hayden, Director of Business and Finance. Right: Howard Moses, Director of Chaplain Care. Both work in the Headquarters’ Office.
Earlier this week, Dave High (pictured) and Lloyd Nolt installed the carpet.
The chairs arrived several weeks ago.
As this construction comes to a close, Cerwin, Hezekiah, and I are getting excited about delivering it to Pilot Travel Center, East St. Louis, IL, where Chaplain Dan and Raydean Stuckey, Chaplain Ron and Brenda Hershberger, and several volunteers have been using a room in the truck stop. Delivery date is planned for July 5.

Grandchildren & A Tree Branch
On Friday Jeff and Chris’ five children were here for the day.
Jordan racing cars on our Nintendo GameCube.
Later in the day I took him to his job at a local nursery (plants and trees)
Diana playing a game on my old laptop and Nathan watching something on TV.
Some of the children wanted to work in my office, which was a great opportunity for me to have them put labels on envelopes that were printed prior to last year when our in-house office changed from TFC’s Northeast Office to Office of Communications ~ when TFC was restructured in October.

I was pleased with the number of envelopes that were updated.
Thanks guys!

Later that night a rather severe storm went through our area. Our only damage was one tree branch down.
Saturday afternoon: Cerwin and Hezekiah discuss how to best remove it from our yard.
I soon heard the sound of a chain saw…
…and before long our yard was again branchless.
Bad Bargains
The following are notes from a sermon at our church several weeks ago ~ I do not remember who the minister was (we have eight).
Never Exchange Divine Truth for the Devil’s Trash.
Never Exchange the Bible for a Good Book.
Never Exchange Faith for Fear.
Never Exchange Good Deeds for Righteousness in Christ.
But ~ Do Exchange Sin for Salvation!
That Was Fun!
Yesterday, while working in the office, the door opened, and I heard some young voices.
It didn’t take me long to realize that Jana, Abigail, Josh, Ian, and Jared had walked to our house. Abigail (their summer nanny ~ and our Maine granddaughter) does a good job of keeping the children entertained while Jere is at work and Kristen is in the hospital.
After a drink of water and a few gummies, they were on their way back home.
As I walked out the driveway with them, I noticed that our daisys are just about ready to bloom.
Then we noticed the sweet scent of honeysuckle and Josh asked if he could suck the honey out of a few blossoms.
Jana wasn’t sure she would like it, but was “brave” and really liked the taste.
Then they were on their way.

You Won’t Believe What I Did Today!
It was something I have never done in all my 63 years and 4 months.
I got a pedicure and manicure.
(I know, I know, you guys won’t find this real exciting ~ but some of the women and girls may enjoy this entry!)
This day happened because our twelve-year-old granddaughter, Jenna, wanted to get a manicure and pedicure as one of her “special” grandma days. She gets seven special days this year.
So with her parents permission and our youngest daughters help, we made the day happen.
Our youngest daughter, Deb, and Jenna getting started with their pedicures.
She’s already enjoying this ~ and has just gotten started!
Ahhhh, this feels good.
I think I can get used to this!
Jenna loves her white-tipped toe nails!
~~~
Okay, let’s check on my sixty-three-year-old-feet-that-have-never-been-pedicured.
(While the pedicure was being done, the chair massaged my back and shoulders.)
Life is tough some days! ![]()
I think they are beyond help!
Look what the girls talked me into!
I’ll have to make sure I wear sandals this weekend. ![]()
Deb is braver than us, and had a butterfly painted on each big toe nail.
~~~
Next it was time for manicures.
We settled for pinkish-clear polish on our nails.
That was fun! I love being pampered now and then.
Jenna said, “Grandma, can we do this again sometime?”
I think I started something!
Update on Kristen
I just called her at the hospital so I can give you the latest update. She continues to have tests to see what is causing the extreme pain in her hip. Depending on the outcome of these tests, she may come home over the weekend. So there are no clear answers at this point – other than we do know that she is about eight months pregnant! ![]()
This photo is from a few weeks ago when her pain was just beginning and she needed to have her feet propped up for suppertime.
Play Ball!
Last evening we enjoyed another White Oak Red (church) game!
I think we should go more often ~ the last time we went they ten-runned the other team ~ and they did it again last night against LCBC! In between they lost quite a few games.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
Go Red!
A satisfied team relaxes after the game.
A Prayer Request & A Piano Lesson
Please pray for our daughter-in-law, Kristen.
She is in serious hip pain, and almost eight months pregnant. Yesterday she was admitted to the hospital to make sure it wasn’t related to previous hip surgery. Current conclusion is that it is an inflamed muscle, however, she is still in the hospital for more observation.
Because her mom is in the hospital, I took Jana to her piano lesson.
Jen is a great teacher and friend to her students.
Let everything that lives sing praises to the Lord!
Praise the LORD!

Planning a Birthday Party
Yesterday Cerwin’s Pennsylvania siblings (his sister, Doris, lives in Minnesota) went to church with Mother at Landis Homes (where she lives), then had lunch in a small room we reserved – next to the dining room.
Seated left to right: Elvin (brother) and Pat; Mel and Velda (sister); Mother; and Cerwin.
After lunch we made preliminary plans for Mother’s 90th birthday party in early September. What fun to hear each others ideas, put them on paper, and divide responsibilities.
~~~
I’m honored to be part of this fabulous family.
Walking With a Three & Four-Year-Old
Yesterday while caring for our youngest grandsons, I thought it would be fun to walk to our Amish neighbors (half mile) to deliver some photos I printed for them (the children holding the bunnies) last week.
Ian and Jared were excited to walk to the farm.
Walking with little boys is like taking a puppy for a walk ~ EVERYTHING must be investigated! In this picture, Jared was interested in some soft tar on the blacktop.
Every mud puddle had to be checked out, and several stones thrown in ~ to watch them splash.
Dandelions seeds must be blown away.
The girls were so glad to see me. They thought I forgot about their pictures. When I take pictures of them, their animals, or around the farm, I print them on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, and punch holes into it so they can put them in a note book.
They were pleased to show the boys their “carriage horse.” The mules were in the field today.
I was surprised the boys were comfortable getting so close.
They asked the boys if they wanted to see their brand new calf…
…and dog.
They played in the sandbox while I talked to Sadie (the mother).
After getting home, the boys wanted to check the mailbox.
I liked this picture of them walking in step.
Grandpa got home from the auction a short time later. Jared crawled into his lap ~ and both promptly fell asleep.
