great is your faithfulness.

Visiting TFC Friends at Shamokin Dam
Saturday Evening, August 15
After visiting and enjoying a carry-in supper, Don shared the plans for the evening.
Cerwin used a PowerPoint to let everyone know what has been going on in our lives since we last visited this area.
Suzanne motioned to her husband, Glenn, that she needed her glasses. ![]()
These two, very talented ladies, were a fabulous asset to a short hymn sing.

I always enjoy the drive to Shamokin Dam, as part of it is along the Susquehanna River, which appeared calm and peaceful on Saturday evening.
From the Internet:
Shamokin Dam is a small borough in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, United States. The name is derived from a ten foot tall dam that was built across the Susquehanna River in the 1800s. The dam supported steamboat ferries run by Ira T. Clement, which transported goods and people between Shamokin Dam and the city of Sunbury on the Northumberland County side of the river. These ferries operated from 1772 until the Bainbridge Street Bridge was built in 1907. The dam also provided water to the Susquehanna Division of the Pennsylvania Canal System which was constructed on the western bank of the river. The dam was destroyed by ice in March 1904.

We were blessed by the kindness and encouragement of these friends.
Don’t forget that for the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years,
and a thousand years is the same as one day.

Lesson Learned
After regretting that I did not have a camera last Sunday when we were invited to Carl and Nancy’s for lunch, I put my old Nikon Coolpix 4500 in our car – instead of storing it in a drawer where it is only used now and then by grandchildren.
~~~
It already paid off!
~~~
We seemed to have a lot of people to talk to after church, and were some of the last to leave – not usual for us. When we got to the car, there was a note from our granddaughter Diana, asking us to drop two DVDs off at Jere and Kristen’s house on the way home. (Apparently she forgot to give them to Jana after church.)
Jere and Kristen were just ready to sit down for lunch when I walked in. They had extra food, and invited us to join them! Now didn’t that work out nice. ![]()
Who can turn down grilled hamburgers and corn on the cob?
Jared, Kristen, Jesse, Jere, Ian, and Jana. Cerwin and Josh are just off the camera to my left.
Jere and Kristen were surprised that Jesse liked watermelon.

After getting home, we spent the rest of the day relaxing. Cerwin watched hunting and Ice Road Truckers while I digitized old slides with a camera attachment I borrowed from my brother Clair early this year.
Digitizing slides and documenting the date is time-consuming, but it is something I want to do so I can eventually give our children a DVD of their growing up years.
The LORD is King!
Tell the earth to celebrate and all islands to shout.

Chickies Rock Park
Thursday, August 13 – Part 2
I expect that Chickies Rock is at the other end of this trail, and I want to walk it sometime – but there was not enough time on this day.
I walked just a short way before turning around.
Back in the sunshine, the bees and other pollen-loving critters were busy.
Late-summer weeds and flowers are beginning to bloom.
Some of the foliage whispered to me that fall is just around the corner.
Look to the LORD and his strength;
Seek his face always.
Psalm 105:4 (New International Version)
Chickies Rock Park
Thursday, August 13
We drive by this park many times a year, but have never stopped in. When taking Lydia to York yesterday, I mentioned to Cerwin that we must stop in there sometime.
One the way home he asked if I wanted to stop in today.
All I knew about this area is the huge rock called “Chickies Rock.”
I had no idea there was so much more. (When we were leaving, this gazebo area was being prepared for a wedding.)
Chickies Rock Park’s name is derived from the American Indian word “Chiquesalunga” meaning “place of the crayfish”.
We walked to the fenced-in area where there was a beautiful vista of the Susquehanna River.
There was a bit of Civil War history describing the value of the Pennsylvania iron industry during that era.
After a short walk, and seeing the basics, Cerwin chose the comfort of the car, while I investigated some of the details that one can miss at a quick glance.
While her owner continually called, “ZO-EE”, she decided that it was more fun checking out details with me, and stayed by my side for several minutes.
More details from the park tomorrow night.
God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am.
Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.”

After posting this verse, I came upon a YouTube link a friend put on Facebook.
It is amazing!
Lydia
Lydia enjoys cooking, so is usually in charge of one or two meals a week.
Last night she made a meal with items she ordered from Schwan’s.
I usually order a few meals when Schwan’s stops in (every two weeks). Last week I put her in charge of ordering.
Breaded chicken, green beans, and tortellini in spaghetti sauce. It was delicious.
Brownie dessert
She is so creative in using what is in our freezer and refrigerator. This dessert was made from three frozen brownies (warmed in the microwave), then layered with sliced bananas, hot fudge, and Cool Whip. Yum!
Look at Lydia’s turkey sandwich!
Today we stopped at Round the Clock restaurant in York for lunch, where we met Lydia’s other grandparents, who live about an hour and a half from us. Roy and Joanne chose to have Lydia this weekend, because their family is camping, and they thought it would be a good time for her to spend time with aunts, uncles, and cousins.

When I look at this picture, I can see where Lydia got her “looks!”

I guess I’m going to have to do my own cooking for the next few days. ![]()
