A Birthday Party for Jordan
Wednesday, August 19
Part 1
Jordan turned eighteen in early August, but their family vacation, and a busy schedule delayed the celebration.
The sound of the White Mountain ice cream freezer was music to our ears.
It has been a long time since we had homemade ice cream.
While waiting for the ice cream, I decided to check out Jeff and Chris’ flowers and yard.
I noticed movement inside this window, and saw Diana putting eggs into a carton. (They raise their own chickens.)
Their back yard is green and lush this year.
Chris decided to get the towels off the line before an impending rain.
A few of her pretty flowers.
Their cats love attention.
Come back tomorrow night to see more photos of the evening.
Get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel.

Friends of Chaplain David and Trisha Hoy (Elkton, Maryland) were in the area and stopped in to see the office.

Jay and Nan also stopped in to visit. He recently began volunteering at the Frystown, Pennsylvania, chapel and needed a profile photo.

It is a requirement that I bring tapioca (the world’s best) from Hilltop Acres Farm Market when going to any meeting at the International Office that includes food. (It is made at Hilltop – just happened to be stored in a Spring Glen container.)

International Leadership Team
Tuesday, August 18 & Wednesday, August 19
Part I
It was good to be with TFC’s Leadership Team again, as this meeting was cancelled in 2008 due to the financial crunch caused by the sagging economy.
TFC did everything possible to “tighten our belts”, after the close of our fiscal year (June 2008) did not look encouraging.
Each person in administration and many staff took ten percent pay cuts, parttime employees were laid off, ministry travel was limited, most newsletters were printed with black ink instead of full color, three ministry publications were reduced to one, and my office became the center for all bulk mailings.
Imagine our joy on Tuesday, when end-of-year reports (June 2009) revealed that our financial situation was very much improved. I give our leadership and staff high marks for making this happen.

Corn
You cannot live in our area of the country and not notice the tall corn ~ the result of a rainy, sunny summer.
The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.
Psalm 65:13 (King James Version)
As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will confess and give praise to God.

Hawthorne Family Picnic
Monday, August 17
The Hawthorne’s are my mother’s brothers and sisters – and their children – and their children – and their children. Mother passed away in 1974, but it is good to “see her” each time I visit her siblings.
There were originally eight siblings, now there are five, as Leroy, Florence, and Betty visit in Heaven. Last night three were able to attend – Anna Mary, Lester, and Orpha: Joyce and her husband had another commitment; and Vernon lives on the west coast. There were a nice number of the next three generations.
Having them at our family’s pavilion (in the woodlot behind our house) is a special honor.
The food is always a special treat.
Cousins: Joan and Donna.
Denny (a cousin’s husband) and my uncle Lester.
Everyone
My stepmother and my sister, Nancy’s, family.
My brand-new great niece Heidi
My stepmother, Velma, and my niece Karen holding her niece Heidi.
It was a beautiful, beautiful evening.
Just as we were about finished eating, the harvest crew gave us an education on how to efficiently pick up alfalfa. I think everyone was surprised at how quickly they completed the field next to the pavilion.
Clair – these shots are for you.
By the time darkness arrived, we were serenaded by thousands of katydids.
