Stitch in Time

Visiting Japheth’s Store

February 25

After delivering hot chocolate to Cerwin and Bob at the shop, Doris, Mother, and I went to town for a few groceries and to visit Japheth’s store.

Japheth was teaching a customer how to use her computerized machine.

His employee (Steve) had a question about a sewing machine. The man in the background is reading a book while his wife is being trained on her sewing machine.

Customers can come to the store and quilt on this Avante’ Handi Quilter. I think Japheth said he rents it by the hour.

Japheth’s sister Judi was his secretary (prior to marrying Reuben and moving to Wisconsin) and trained Charissa (right) to take her place.

It is wonderful to watch his business grow and prosper.

Worshiping the LORD is sacred; he will always be worshiped. All of his decisions are correct and fair. They are worth more than the finest gold and are sweeter than honey from a honeycomb.

Psalm 19:9-10 (Contemporary English Version)

Bob’s Minnesota Wood Shop

…Bees and Maple Syrup

February 24-26

Shop.jpg

Bob and Cerwin spent most of Wednesday and Thursday in the shop.

Juanita delivered their morning snack – hot chocolate – on Thursday.

They framed, insulated, and painted a new area of the shop which he is going to use for spraying furniture.

The bees are currently dormant – waiting for warmer days.

After a bear knocked over a beehive, Bob make a protective, electric fence to discourage this from happening again.

This area will be a hive of activity when flowers begin blooming in northern Minnesota.

Doris’ Minnesota Kitchen

…where things are cooked, baked, and fried with lots of love.

February 22-26

1a.jpg

Left to right: Doris (yes, I have a sister-in-law with the same name as me), Juanita, Mother, and Monica. Monica is married to Jesse (an “adopted” son to Bob and Doris). Mother is peeling apples while the others prepare ingredients for apple crisp.

1a (3).jpg

 Juanita preparing sticky buns

1a (4).jpg

 Adding butter

1a (5).jpg

 Sugar

1a (6).jpg

 Cinnamon

1a (7).jpg

 Rolling up the dough

1a (8).jpg

Marking where she wants to cut them

1a (9).jpg

“Cutting” them with dental floss. I thought that was quite clever.

1a (10).jpg

1a (11).jpg

 The gooey stuff

1a (12).jpg

Prepared for rising – then baking

1a (13).jpg

 Out of the oven

1a (14).jpg

Ready to eat – oh, yum!

1a (15).jpg

Juanita preparing the crumb mixture for frying fish. Notice Doris’ cookbook holder is attached below the cupboard.

1a (16).jpg

This is a great idea, and folds away when not in use.

1a (17).jpg

Monica wanted to learn how to prepare and fry fish.

1a (18).jpg

If I remember correctly, this was walleye

1a (19).jpg

1a (20).jpg

When there are so many cooks in the kitchen – I wash dishes.

1a (1).jpg

While relaxing, Mother often recorded thoughts in a notebook that Doris gave her several years ago – asking questions about her life from childhood to now.

1a (2).jpg

Juanita found this quilt (made from material of dresses she wore as a child) when going through her boxes that are in storage. Because Judi took her things to Wisconsin, Juanita wanted to rearrange her boxes before going back to Michigan.

“These children are the kingdom’s pride and joy. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” [Jesus]
