My Family’s Belated Easter Dinner

Our parents would be amazed at the size of their family. On Sunday we totaled fifty-five – and twenty six were missing.

 Sunday, May 22

Before prayer, we sang happy birthday to our stepmother, Velma, our grandson Jared, and my youngest brother’s grandchildren, Caleb and Molly. Molly didn’t quite understand what was going on.

Her grandma, Brenda, helped her blow out the candle.

Our delicious food table.

I was grateful that we could put this outside the garage to make more room inside, but it was too cool for anyone to eat outside.

Every married couple brought food – creating a delicious meal.

We set up the kitchen table for the overflow since we could not put any tables in the yard.

After lunch the teenagers hid hundreds of eggs that our daughter Deb brought for the egg hunt.

Josh and Nate

When they were finished, these three sat on the edge of the porch. I tried to get them to smile, but they decided to be serious.

Someone did capture a good smile from Jordan sometime later. I am not sure who took this, but it was in my camera.

The very small ones get a head start. Jenna helping Bella find eggs.

And the older ones are off for the hunt.

I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.

High School Graduates

Honored at Church

Sunday, May 22

~~~
There are ten high school graduates at our church this year: Tirzah, Jacolia, Janessa, Tiersha, Sabrina, Nate, Cameron, Cory, Hannah, and Amber.
At the end of the service they were honored with their choice of a Bible concordance or Bible dictionary. (Not everyone was able to be at church this morning.)
One of our ministers, Carl, preached an inspiring message titled
Great Expectations – Great Obstacles
Following are a few notes I wrote during his sermon – some that he said, other thoughts that came to me as he spoke.
“Satan tells us that we are too weak to win.”
God tells us that with Him we will win.”
God delights in you.
Find God’s opportunities for you.
God’s promises are true.
Do not depend on your own strength.
Stay close to the Bible.
Our minister Ron, concluded the service by quoting Proverbs 3:5 & 6 as a mathematical equation:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
+
Lean not on your own understanding
+
In all your ways acknowledge Him
=
He shall direct your paths
Congratulations everyone!
God—yes God!—is my strength and song, best of all, my salvation!
Sometimes it’s just good to remember that.
Preparing For a Family Dinner at Our House
The Sweet Scent of Blooming Locust Trees
Saturday, May 21
1 (1)
The locust trees in our area are in full bloom.
1 (3)
They are tall trees that tower over the rest of the trees in our wood lot, and their blossoms exude a wonderful, sweet scent that came to me quite often on Saturday as I worked in our yard.
1 (4)
We trimmed the lower branches of two of our pine trees to make the mowing easier for Cerwin. It will also make it easier for the younger grandchildren to play in the loose, sandy dirt.
1 (5)
I removed a few weeds and dead spring flowers from this area near the road.
1 (7)
In the late afternoon I washed the wooden love seat in the memory garden.
1 (8)
The memory garden is full of perennials that continue to grow and spread each year.
1 (10)
Before coming inside to prepare for Jared’s birthday party (previous post), I cut enough mint tea to make five gallons of tea for Sunday lunch and afternoon.
1 (13)
While making tea, I watched a female Downy Woodpecker enjoy the suet.
I love warm spring evenings when the yard is looking good.
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Think about that – The Lord is with you and me.
A TFC Banquet
near Northumberland, Pennsylvania
Saturday, May 14
~~~

It was a good thing that Chaplain Jake and Jane Wise were here right on time.

Jake offered to drive – using the conversion van they recently purchased for a trip to the west coast this summer. We loaded our things into the van and were soon on our way.

We were probably about half an hour into our two-and-a-half-hour drive (on the Pennsylvania turnpike) when we heard an awful noise in the area of the left back wheel.

~~~
1 (3)
This is what we discovered.
2 (1)
The tread had come off the tire.
2 (2)
So began the process of changing the tire.
2 (3)
Shortly after getting the van, Jake checked to make sure he could remove the spare tire and that it was in good shape. It was a good thing, because we needed it.
2 (4)
2 (6)
2 (5)
The change went well and we were soon on our way.
2 (7)
Even with taking time to change a tire, we were still the first to arrive at Ric-Mar Restaurant – with plenty of time to set up.
2 (8)
Cerwin, Jake, Jane, and Nancy Goss (wife of Don Goss – the contact person for the Susquehanna Chapter) watch the Truck Rally pictures from 2010.
3 (1)
Enjoying the delicious meal.
3 (2)
3 (4)
My choice of pie – lemon crumb.
3 (5)
Jake shared some experiences from the chapel at Frystown, Pennsylvania, and his ministry at a truck terminal and truck driving school.
4
Gina Robatin is a local, southern gospel singer with a fabulous voice, so it was an honor to have her at this banquet.
5
6
Cerwin closed the evening with a TFC ministry update – using PowerPoint photos and slides.
~~~

We are blessed to know these faithful prayer warriors and supporters.
