Preparing For a Family Dinner at Our House
The Sweet Scent of Blooming Locust Trees
Saturday, May 21
The locust trees in our area are in full bloom.
They are tall trees that tower over the rest of the trees in our wood lot, and their blossoms exude a wonderful, sweet scent that came to me quite often on Saturday as I worked in our yard.
We trimmed the lower branches of two of our pine trees to make the mowing easier for Cerwin. It will also make it easier for the younger grandchildren to play in the loose, sandy dirt.
I removed a few weeds and dead spring flowers from this area near the road.
In the late afternoon I washed the wooden love seat in the memory garden.
The memory garden is full of perennials that continue to grow and spread each year.
Before coming inside to prepare for Jared’s birthday party (previous post), I cut enough mint tea to make five gallons of tea for Sunday lunch and afternoon.
While making tea, I watched a female Downy Woodpecker enjoy the suet.
I love warm spring evenings when the yard is looking good.
