Bible School
July 11-15
This was the week we had Jesse, Jared, and Ian so Kristen could finish preparing her mother’s house for sale. Hannah was helpful in preparing them for Bible school.
Our teachers did a fabulous job of decorating their rooms.
The theme this year was
Inside Out & Upside Down on Main Street
Where Jesus makes a difference every day!
The sanctuary was made to look like a town – with lots of signs hanging on lights and posts.
The adults stayed in the back of the sanctuary for a Bible lesson each night – taught by Jonathan, Doug, Kevin, John, Dwayne
There was even a traffic light in the back of the auditorium.
There are three superintendents: Ryan, Kerwin, and Jason. The one at the microphone on this night was Kerwin.
One of our young men (Derik, Derric, Damon, Austin, Jeremy) was in charge of devotions each evening. On this evening it was Damon.
The children love to sing, and this was one of their favorites because they could sing very LOUD – words like: BIG, STRONG, MIGHTY!
Storytime was a highlight each night.
This year each story was created by turning one of Jesus’ parables into something that could be happening in today’s world.
Monday night: The land owner who hired workers at various times of the day.
At the end of the day he gave them all the same wage. Of course those who were hired early in the day were not happy that those hired later in the day received the same wage.
For more details, read Matthew 20:1-16 here
Tuesday night: The Good Samaritan
The girl on crutches (our niece Chelsey) was being taunted by three popular, stylish girls (one hidden by the sign).
I expect it was in the hallway of school because of the lockers in the background. They eventually tripped her and left her sobbing and lying on the floor.
Some students just walked by her, but a student who was a bit of a misfit, stopped and took her to the nurse.
Read Luke 10:25-27 for the rest of the story here
Wednesday: The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
The king learned from a servant (our grandson Nathan) that there was a servant who owed him millions of dollars.
The king ordered that the debtor (in the rocking chair in the aisle) be brought to him.
He was brought to the king and when he ordered that this servant and his family be sold, the servant begged for mercy – which the king extended.
However, the forgiven debtor went directly to a poor servant who owed him a thousand dollars, and demanded that it be paid immediately or he would put him in jail.
The poor servant could not pay, so the first servant put him in jail.
When the king heard this, he was enraged, and put the first debtor in prison.

Thursday: The Parable of the Lost Son
A father had two sons, and when the younger (our nephew Kurt – right) asked for his inheritance immediately, he took it, moved to another country, and spent it until there was nothing left.
When the young son returned and begged for forgiveness, the father asked the oldest son to help throw a party. The oldest son was not pleased.

Friday night: The parable of the talents
A nobleman gave each of his servants money, then said that he was going to another country, and asked that they invest the money in something that will make more money.
Two worked diligently in multiplying their money, but the lazy servant played Xbox games and drank soda.
When the nobleman returned he was angry with the lazy servant.

Following the story, each class went to their room.
Jesse showing us and his parents a frame that he made during craft time.
A highlight of the week was Parent’s Night (Thursday) when parents could visit their children’s and grandchildren’s room.
Main Street in the fellowship hall is where Jana went to class.
Each student etched their name onto a mirror.
Jared showing us his framed photo. He was posing for his mom’s camera – the reason he is not looking at me.
Sitting on the same chair as in the previous photo.
Gloria painted a t-shirt.
I did not get a photo of her at Bible school, so used one from the same day when we had “cousin’s days” at our house.
Diana made a checkerboard
Ian painted a birdhouse and designed a hand mold in cement.

Bible School was very well done and taught this week, and it showed in our attendance, which was more than 500 every night – with the highest attendance being 581.
We are blessed to be part of a church with great dedication and talent, and I honor each teacher and assistant for reinforcing the truth that Jesus changes lives.
I’m back online, but you will have to wait to hear about our trip until I catch up on my previous July posts.
Raccoons in Our Bird Feeders
&
Nathaniel & Abigail’s Apartment
Nicely decorated by friends while they were on their honeymoon
Monday, July 11
Cerwin and Hannah have both spotted these raccoons at our feeders – but I have yet to see all five of them. There is one mother and four babies.
Cerwin took these pictures just before daylight on Monday, July 11.
I knew something other than birds was eating our birdseed.
Later that morning I went to Nate and Abby’s apartment to see what some of their friends had done to their place a few days earlier. This is what I saw as I went down the steps.
Toilet paper was the decorating item of choice.
You know you have good friends when these kind of stickit notes are in your new apartment.
The bathroom mirror
The bedroom
The kitchen
The food in their freezer were gifts.
The warnings were to prevent Nate or Abby from turning on the oven before checking out the contents inside.
They have good friends indeed!
I expect to be without Internet the next few days, but know that I am blessed. ![]()
Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway! Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot.

I love relying on God for wisdom as I travel life’s freeway.
TFC Activities Last Week
The New Chapel is Almost Finished
July 11 to 15
Monday, July 11, I went to the International Office for lunch to celebrate Bunny O’Hare’s (left) birthday, and went back the next day for a staff meeting.
Cerwin asked me to take a picture of the newly completed International Chapel #2.
A few days later the interior was finished when vinyl flooring was installed in the chapel area. The living quarters is carpeted, but Cerwin wanted to try vinyl or laminate for the chapel area to see if it will wear better. Most laminate doesn’t survive cold temperatures, the reason he chose vinyl. I like it.
The two International Mobile Chapels. The one on the right is the newest. These are basically used for promotional work, but may also be used as temporary chapels at truck stops.
On Wednesday, July 13, we recruited the older grandchildren to help label the individual Highway News. The grandchildren were here for Cousin’s Week. Josiah did not have to go to work until lunch, so was also able to help.

Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

I am saddened when I see a person who has been given an incredible talent from the Lord, and then watch them waste it by serving Satan.
High Family Picnic
Sunday, July 10
Following the worship service at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church (previous post), we went to the High Picnic (Cerwin’s Dad’s family) at High Sports, Lititz, for our annual picnic.
Uncle Sam (owner of High Sports) and his son John prepare hamburgers and hot dogs.
Each family brought a hot and cold covered dish.
After lunch everyone enjoyed reconnecting with aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There was a refreshing “water spray” near the area where we had our picnic. Some of the young people enjoyed getting wet because it was a very warm afternoon.
Our grandniece Peyton seemed to enjoy it the most.
Another thing she enjoyed was watching the small waterfall behind where I was sitting. It is part of the miniature golf course.
I loved how her wet hair glistened in the afternoon sun.
I love family reunions.
A Car for Josh
Saturday, July 9
Our grandson Josh and his dad stopped in on Saturday to show us the 2000 Saab they bought.
It is stretching him a bit as he learns to drive a five-speed. (His parents cars are automatic.) He’s looking forward to taking his driver test in a few weeks so he can drive on his own.
Visiting Manheim Brethren in Christ Church
With the International Chapel
Sunday, July 10
We arrived at Manheim BIC about 8:15 Sunday morning.
It was trucker’s Sunday for the children’s classes as they learned about ways that truckers are missionaries.
Five drivers brought trucks.
Gene Gehman told the children that when he was a child and listened to missionaries he was worried that God would call him to South America, but he didn’t want to ride a donkey – he wanted to drive truck.
Or maybe God would call him to Alaska – but he didn’t want to drive a dog sled – he wanted to drive truck. Nor did he want to go to Africa and drive a camel – he wanted to drive truck.
Years later he learned that there are way for truckers to be missionaries by delivering items for missionaries – sometimes to a dock for a ship to take items overseas, and other times directly to a mission in the United States or Canada.
He told the same story to the next group of children, and with each group Cerwin told them about Transport For Christ by projecting PowerPoint slides on the white board in the front of the chapel.
Waiting to visit the chapel.
Some of the younger classes noticed the excitement in the parking lot and came to the chapel as well.
Waiting for their turn to see the trucks.
It’s a highlight for them to sit in a truck and blow the air horn.
A teacher told us that this is a highlight of the children’s summer Sunday school series.
The Stoner family shares the third part of the morning study by sharing their love of restoring old trucks – comparing it to God’s love for restoring souls. (This part is done in their Sunday school classroom.)
I was busy in the chapel, and did not take any pictures inside.
Sherry Stoner made cookie trucks for their snack.
We were blessed to participate in the morning.
God blessed the seventh day and made it a holy day, because on that day he rested from all the work he had done in creating the world.
