We Thought Our Saturday Was Going To Be Quiet
Then our son Jere called and asked if we could keep four of the neatest kids in the world. His work car is dying part-by-part, and today seemed like a good day to look for another one.
“What doing Grandpa?”
“I’m fixing the couch.”
“Me help you?”
That’s how Jared became involved in helping Cerwin remove the ropes and padding that had been the main strength under the cushions of our couch, and replacing them with a solid, plywood base and new padding. (Cerwin made the couch in the mid-eighties, and decided this was the day to change the foundation.)
Jared’s favorite tool was the measuring tape!
He measured everything!
He loved pulling the tape out, then pushing the button to rewind it. The first few times it snapped his fingers. He would say, “Ouch”, then try it again! Finally he learned how to keep his fingers out of the way!
In the meantime his sister Jana played on my old laptop. Here she is playing Pet Shop. It looks she is choosing pets in this photo.
I have been doing counted cross-stitch photos of the grandchildren for the past dozen years, and every now and then someone asks me about them because of my profile notes. This is Jana with her picture.
I purchase a kit (Stitch A Photo), send a photo to the company who transposes it into a pattern, then I stitch it and have it professionally framed.
Ian and Josh played Game Cube.
Back to the couch. Grandpa is teaching Jared how to unscrew these screw eyes.
By this time Ian was also interested in helping.
Ian also got involved in cleanup.
Then it was time to help Grandma bake cookies.
I purchased this box of premeasured cookie dough from one of our grandchildren who was selling it as a school project, and thought Ian would enjoy putting them on cookie sheets.
Plus, I needed some cookies.
He did have fun helping me.
Warm chocolate chip cookies!
Yum!
Then it was time to relax with a second cup of coffee and watch the DVD movie Barnyard with the little boys. Ian and Jared brought this movie to show us, and knew exactly what was going to happen and when. They kept saying, “Grandma, watch this.”
Josh and Jana asked for paper and a few other supplies to make some creations.
I liked the little boy Josh designed.
Jana designed a castle and prince and princess.
Remember the rope from the couch? Somehow that resurfaced this evening – just after we ate the pizza Jere and Kristen brought for supper.
I think they are having way too much fun tying me up!

So much for a quiet day! But it was a lot more fun than quiet.
