Butternut Squash Harvest – Day 3

| Uncategorized

Thursday, October 22 The final day of butternut squash harvest. It was amazing to watch them continue to fill trailers. By my calculations they harvested a total of eight or nine trailers. They finished the harvest by 2:30 in the afternoon. By early evening Jacob had already begun planting a winter grass – probably rye. […]

Taking Down a Few Dead Trees in the Property Behind Us

Thursday, October 22 The property in our woodlot (southeast side) is being sold and part of the deal was taking down some of the dead trees. The guys on the ground fed the smaller branches (and some fairly large ones) in to the woodchipper. There was a large crane that picked up the branches and […]

Waxing Crescent Moon Rising

Wednesday, October 21 Almost more beauty than my eyes can take in. Moving my camera toward the southwest. The waxing crescent moon was bright and high in the evening sky. Before long the sun had set and the sky was dark except for the pretty moon.

Butternut Squash Harvest – Day 2

Wednesday, October 21 The harvest equipment began about noon. I didn’t take many pictures on the second day of squash harvest, but enough to show you that it was happening again. The outer border shows you how much of the seven-acre field was harvested to get 3 large trailers full the day before. I didn’t […]

Butternut Squash Harvest – Day 1

| Uncategorized

Tuesday, October 20 I was hoping I would be home for the butternut squash harvest – and was pleased to see the equipment about 9:45 am. I enjoy watching this, because it is more unusual in our area than corn or soybean harvest. This is Jacob’s field (Amish neighbor), but someone else does the harvest […]

Tuesday, October 20 The coloring of the shellbark trees finally made it to the bottom of the trees. The trees are beginning to loose their leaves from the very top of the branches. It won’t be many days before our lawn is covered with leaves. The Juncos are back – a sure sign of Fall. […]

Pretty Leaves & Ivy Flowers

Saturday, October 17 Maybe it’s because the leaves are so pretty this year, or maybe it’s because I have time to notice them, I am enjoying walking around our yard on warm fall days and trying to capture pretty pictures in the afternoon sun. Did you know ivy gets flowers? I just learned that these […]

Friday, October 16 I am enjoying mornings when the sun comes up and heightens the colors of the two shellbark trees in our front yard. During the mid-afternoon, our grandson Josiah called to see if we were home. He was leaving a job nearby and could easily come by on his way home. Before long […]

Wednesday, October 14 I was surprised to look out our kitchen window when I got up at 4 am and see two skunks rooting around in the flower bed below our bird feeders. It was fun watching them quietly scurrying around looking for something to eat. Our daughter Deb said they are eating a lot […]

Thursday, October 8 Apparently our motel window was facing east, because this is what I saw when I opened the curtain at 7:15 am. We drove through a bit of fog as we headed east – which made the morning quite pretty. When I saw this picture, I was disappointed because it captured the dead […]
