Let’s Play Ball!

Saturday, April 14, Was Our Church’s Baseball Tournament

BASEBALL (1)

Mummau Park is a perfect place for this event – and the weather was close to perfect.

I took more than 700 pictures, so decided to tell you about the day in a series of similar photos.

Today is a bit about some of the general information.

BASEBALL (2)

There were lots of spectators – most from our church.

BASEBALL (3)

BASEBALL (4)

BASEBALL (5)

Sisters – Sabrina and Brieanna.

Today is Sabrina’s birthday – Happy Birthday!

BASEBALL (6)

Somebody was a bit cool. I won’t tell you who this is, but she’s a granddaughter.

BASEBALL (7)

BASEBALL (8)

BASEBALL (10)

Nate visiting with Grandpa during a time when his team wasn’t playing.

BASEBALL (11)

Marv & Dave – two of our preachers.

I expect it was easier for them to have a relaxing day knowing that we had a visiting minister the next day.

BASEBALL (12)

BASEBALL (13)

BASEBALL (14)

The day is always a fundraiser for two people or couples from our church – usually someone who has had recent medical expenses.

The food is part of the fundraising.

BASEBALL (15)

The french fries were delicious and served by sisters, Rebecca and Joanna.

BASEBALL (16) BASEBALL (17)

As you saw by the list, there was plenty of food.

BASEBALL (18)

Bases are waiting for runners. This is first base.

BASEBALL (19)

Home Plate

BASEBALL (23)

Balls and gloves are waiting to be used.

BASEBALL (22) BASEBALL (24)

BASEBALL (20)

Home Run Derby Trophies waiting to be presented.

BASEBALL (21)

BASEBALL (25)

Lois (blue jacket) is ready to keep score.

BASEBALL (26)

The four teams are ready – Retro Red, Orange, Red, and Gray.

Orange, Red, and Gray are part of our church’s teams for this summer. Retro Red is made up of former players.

BASEBALL (27)

I was going to say that ‘retro” is French for old guys, then discovered by Google that it had it’s origins in French and Latin.

I particularly liked the list of synonyms in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary: antique, oldfangled, old-school, old-timey, old-world, quaint, old-fashioned, retrograde.

BASEBALL (28)

Prayer before an orange and red game.

BASEBALL (29)

BASEBALL (30)

Prayer before another game.

I will post a lot more photos during the next few evenings.

A Fruit Bouquet

A Very Thoughtful Gift

Thursday, April 12

DSC_0030

I received a phone call from Sherry Stoner on Wednesday asking if I was home on Thursday. She said she had something to drop off.

It was fun to see Trent, Sherry, and Jack on Thursday morning. This was a gift to me for taking Will’s baptizing photos the other Sunday evening.

Fruit bouquets are one of my favorite gifts.

Thanks!

Old Trucks & Easter Supper

Sunday, April 8

2g (1)

Nathaniel and Jeff arrived in their old trucks.

2g (2)  2g (3)

2h (2)

They were a topic of discussion after the egg hunt and before supper.

The goats were popular with the younger set.

Velma and Deb – Grandma and granddaughter

I think Jared and Ian are getting egg-hunting prizes from Aunt Deb.

More prizes being distributed

My brother Clair and our son Jere

5 (51)

This was the reaction of those in the garage when Clair announced that Rob and Jesse had just signed papers to adopt a little girl, Elyse Pippa. She was born on Friday, April 6. That makes Clair a grandpa for the first time.

5 (52)

Then it was time for supper. Each family brought food.

The Egg Hunt

Sunday Afternoon, April 8

The youngest children went first.

Then the bigger ones joined the search.

I see Kelci, Regan, Andrew, Heidi, Amy, Jana, and Laura.

Mike, Sarah, and their daughter, Katie watch as the young ones gather eggs.

Brenda helping one of their “granddaughters”.

She and Steve care for and mentor young women who need a place to live for a period of time, and some who have gotten themselves into a variety of problems. Many of the women live in their house (the homestead where we grew up). This is one of the young women’s daughters.

Jesse was pleased with his basketful of eggs. Each child was told to find twenty eggs.

Deb is in charge of the egg hunt every year. There are all kinds of things inside the plastic eggs – including notes that mention the prize that you have won. It looks like Jesse won a bunny.

The egg hunt began at 4:30 – just before we had supper with my siblings and their children. More about that tomorrow night.

At Our House

Sunday, April 8

Photos by Doris & Deb

A beautiful and creative Easter gift from our children

Jeff & Chris

Mark & Diane

Jere & Kristen

Roy & Deb

1a (2)

When it was time for dessert at lunchtime, Jere lit the candles on a birthday cake.

1a (3)

The two birthday girls had no idea what was going on.

1a (4)

1a (5)

Now they know!

1a (5a)

1a (6)

Beautiful Easter cupcakes

1a (7)

Loved these cookies. A coworker of Kristen made these.

1a (8)

After lunch was over and dishes cleaned up, Jenna, Jana, Deb, and Diana hid 370 eggs in preparation for the 4:30 p.m. egg hunt.

1a (9)

1a (10) 1a (11)

There are several small children so many eggs are hidden in easy-to-find spots.

1a (12)

I loved this hiding spot – the birdhouse hole that a woodpecker made last fall.

1a (13)

When the eggs were hidden, Deb dressed Pip and Pep in Build-a-Bear outfits.

Notice Pip’s painted toe nails!

1a (14)

They loved running and exploring in our garage.
