A Rewarding, Relaxing Sunday

Because we were visiting Bowmansville Mennonite Church today, to  support Jake and Jane Wise, new staff persons with TFC, we had an extra half hour to relax and watch birds before leaving for church.

The morning light gave this Tufted Titmouse a blue hue.

This is the first time I saw a dove at this feeder – maybe it was attracted to the new Peanut Nugget bird seed I bought at Home Depot yesterday.

While Cerwin had a purpose for being at Home Depot, I didn’t, so I just walked up and down EVERY aisle – getting exercise and checking to see if there was anything I needed, that I didn’t know I needed.  This was the result of that search.

~~~
Then it was 9 a.m., time to leave for church.
Jake & Jane Wise
Jake shared his testimony on how God called him to serve with TFC as a fulltime chaplain.  He opened by saying his testimony would be much shorter if he had obeyed the Lord at the first “call”, instead he had a much longer story.
His responsibility with TFC is visiting drivers who are in the hospital, spending time at local trucking terminals who ask for a chaplain, going to area prisons where a trucker has been incarcerated, and serving at one of four local chapels when there is a need.
He had placed the Promotional Chapel in the church parking lot yesterday.  I never tire of seeing it.
We went inside the chapel before church to make sure the heat was on.  Jake asked Cerwin to do that because he had a problem with it shutting off the last time he used it.  Everything was in good shape.
~~~

Following the church service, we enjoyed visiting with many people who came to the chapel (Jake and Jane were kept busy in the church – answering questions), then we enjoyed lunch with Jake’s family.  Jake’s parents, Alvin and Anna Mae, are members of this church, and prepared the luncheon.  It was so nice.

~~~
I am a “backroad” kind of person and loved traveling through new territory.  Cerwin would have taken main roads, but decided to trust our GPS unit.  It took us on backroads that delighted my eyes.
 A pretty, ice-covered creek.
I liked this large snowman.  They must have used all the snow in their yard, because there wasn’t any surrounding it.  Notice the black buggy in the background.  That tells me this is probably the home of a “Horse & Buggy” Mennonite family.  The Amish buggies in our area our grey.
The buggy in front was open, with the roof tilted back.  The reason it looks different from the one in the back.
I think God created Sundays to be spent something like this.
Shopping ~ Hospital Visit ~ Eating
A New Flash for My Camera!
This morning we had an entire Saturday before us, without any appointments.  Cerwin needed to go to Home Depot for some items for the chapel, and asked if I wanted to do that today, then visit Ted (one of his key construction volunteers) in the hospital.  It sounded good to me!
Then he surprised me and asked if I wanted to go to The Photographer’s Corner for a flash for my camera.  (My birthday is coming up.)  That sounded REALLY good.
After purchasing the flash and getting the items at Home Depot, we visited Ted, who had heart surgery on Wednesday.  Keep him in your prayers.  He doesn’t look quite as good as he did when I took the above photo.  He is still in pretty much pain and will probably be in the hospital a few more days.
After our short hospital visit, we went to Chili’s.  It was the middle of the afternoon ~ so I am not sure if it was lunch or supper.  Actually it was a combination of both.
In case you are checking up on me.  I did choose a healthy meal.
I could hardly wait to get home, put batteries in my new Nikon SB-600 flash, and experiment.
Today (2).JPG
Now I can take mirror photos ~ because I can aim the flash toward the ceiling.
Look at the difference.  The left one was a straight-on flash.  For the picture on the right, I aimed the flash toward the ceiling.
Then I experimented with the bird feeders.
Today (7).JPG
I took several – through a window – and was not keeping record of what I was doing with the flash, but liked these two pictures.
Today (8).JPG
I really liked this one.  You can even see the tiny feathers under its beak!
Five Grandchildren Were Here For the Evening
Children.JPG
The most popular item was the Air Climber, because this is the first time they have seen it.
Jana walked so long that her cheeks were bright pink.
Ian and Jared each took their turn.
Children (4).JPG
Jesse just took everything in from his infant seat.
Children (5).JPG
Josh wanted to taste one of my fruit smoothies…
…and gave his approval.
Children (7).JPG
After supper Josh and Ian played Backyard Football.
Children (8).JPG
Because the little boys want to do plastic canvas stitching like Jana – but it is too complicated – I bought some beads at a craft store the other week.
Children (9).JPG
Jana thought they looked like fun, so I showed her how to stitch them to her counted cross stitch squares.
Children (10).JPG
She decided to make a J for Jana
Children (11).JPG
Ian played his favorite GameCube game, “Cars.”
Children (12).JPG
When I found these foam beads, I knew the boys would like them – and they did.
Children (13).JPG
Jared was the first one to start a string of beads.
Children (14).JPG
Jesse continued entertaining himself and watching the others.
Children (15).JPG
His claim to fame tonight was showing us his brand new teeth…
Children (16).JPG
…and drinking a bottle.
My Brain Cells Are Mush
Mail (1)
I spent the last three days writing and editing articles for The Extra Mile newsletter, now I’m finished, (the rest is up to the proofreaders) and I can get on with a normal schedule again.
~~~

That’s it.  I don’t have any creative ideas for my blog tonight.

I think I will go walk on my Air Climber!
