Birthday Supper
Brook & Rainbow Trout
Cerwin chose Shady Maple Smorgasbord for his birthday supper on Wednesday evening. We rarely eat here, but a free birthday meal was enticing to Cerwin.
We were surprised at how full the place was. It seats 1,200 people, and it was almost full – on a Wednesday night!
We invited Cerwin’s mother to go along – since she is the one who brought him into the world sixty-eight years ago. She had never eaten here.
We were pleased with the total cost of our meals. The regular price for a Wednesday evening is $17.89. Cerwin was free, Mother is over ninety – making her meal half price, and I had a senior discount. The total bill was $25.05. ![]()
An evening rain cloud was passing over as we drove Mother back to the adult community where she lives.
A beautiful violet in one of the hallway windows at Landis Homes.
The evening sky was beautiful as we drove from Mother’s house to Jere and Kristen’s place.
Jere had just returned from a business trip to Virginia where a client took him fishing in Cripple Creek.
He was pleased to catch a twenty-inch, three-and-one-half pound rainbow trout.
To top off this experience, he caught a seventeen-and-one-half-inch, two-and-one-half pound brook trout that made it into Virginia’s record books.
Jere with the rainbow trout.

Jere encouraged Jesse to touch it.
He wasn’t sure, but finally reached out to the fish.
That was cold!

You can be sure that I live, says the Lord.
You can be just as sure that every knee will bow down in front of me.
Every tongue will tell the truth to God.

Squirrel Feeder
I was pleased to see a squirrel in the “corn wreath” this morning. It’s been here about one month, and this is the first time I saw something eating from it.
I enjoyed watching as he leaned over to reach corn on the bottom side…
…and almost fell off!
He got a belly full by the time I chased him away. I knew he’d be back, and I wanted to see how he got there.
Just as I thought. He climbed the tree…
…went out on a branch…
…and jumped.
I’d much rather see a squirrel here than in one of my bird feeders.
~~~
I have a lot more to post from today, but it’s time to go to bed. Tomorrow’s another day.
Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
Monday & Tuesday
Good Growing Weather
The girls, Abigail and Elizabeth, were up early on Monday – ready to head back to Maine.
I like this situation!
Abigail, one of our Maine granddaughters, has a friend (a young man) in our “neck of the woods” – meaning she takes advantage of every opportunity to come to Pennsylvania. ![]()
I noticed a new bird (new for this season) in the feeder this morning – a female brown-headed cowbird.
I could hardly believe the overnight change in the weather – from a sunny, warm Sunday to a cold, rainy Monday.
My favorite “caterer” arrived just before noon. I appreciate their healthy, easy-to-serve meals – especially when I am busy in the office.
Just before supper, we stopped at Jeff and Chris’ before picking up our van at the garage (needed inspection). Diana demonstrated the stacking skills that got her on TV (local Fox channel) the other morning.
Her speed is amazing.
She can even go through a set of stacking and compressing without looking.
Grandpa tried to trick her.
She went through a set with Jenna holding them.
A birthday cake for Jake!
Shortly after we got home from Jeff and Chris’, our daughter-in-law Kristen came to show us their dog’s first birthday cake. How clever.
This morning (Tuesday) was cool and sunny.
Everything was still very wet from yesterday’s rain.
Our Cats and Kittens (or Hen’s and Chicks) are beautiful this spring.
I’m pleased that my dad’s last pair of work shoes are still there in the garden – since his death in 1997.
I looked up when I heard this chickadee. It probably did not appreciate me being there while it was building a nest.
The leaves on this tree are beginning to open. We have never taken the time to identify it.
The crops in the fields are growing before our eyes.
It is a beautiful time of year.
This evening, about suppertime, a thunderstorm moved through the area.
It rained so much the spouting overflowed.
The weatherman says we are supposed to have more rain tomorrow, then a span of warm, sunny days.
This is certainly good growing weather.
I am the Good Shepherd.
I know my own sheep and my own sheep know me.
