Birthday Supper
Brook & Rainbow Trout
Cerwin chose Shady Maple Smorgasbord for his birthday supper on Wednesday evening. We rarely eat here, but a free birthday meal was enticing to Cerwin.
We were surprised at how full the place was. It seats 1,200 people, and was almost full – on a Wednesday night!
We invited Cerwin’s mother to go along – since she is the one who brought him into the world sixty-eight years ago. She had never eaten here.
We were pleased with the total cost of our meals. The regular price for a Wednesday evening is $17.89. Cerwin’s was free, Mother is over ninety – making her meal half price, and I had a senior discount. The total bill was $25.05. ![]()
An evening rain cloud was passing over as we drove Mother back to the retirement community where she lives.

The evening sky was gorgeous as we drove from Mother’s house to Jere and Kristen’s place.
Jere just returned from a business trip to Virginia where a client took him fishing in Cripple Creek.
He was pleased to catch a twenty-inch, three-and-one-half pound rainbow trout.
To top off this experience, he caught a seventeen-and-one-half-inch, two-and-one-half pound brook trout that made it into Virginia’s record books.

Jere encouraged Jesse to touch it.
He wasn’t sure, but finally reached out to the fish.
That was cold!
