Thanks For Your Prayers
Cerwin is doing well this evening.
His surgery lasted one hour and five minutes – about what the doctor expected. We were asked to be there at 10:20 a.m. for the 12:20 p.m. surgery.
Due to a pain blocker and this pain drip (black attachment), he is pain-free, which is wonderful.
Dr. Westphal said the tear was larger than he expected. He called it a monster tear. Consequently he had to make a small incision, along with the two small holes he expected to make, to repair the torn rotator cuff.
How delightful to come home at 4:30 this afternoon, and find homemade potato soup in our refrigerator – from my sister. It was a perfect meal for us this evening. She included delicious, homemade dinner rolls.
She also brought ingredients for apple crisp – home canned apple mixture and a baggie filled with the crumb topping.
Lydia spent the day with my sister and her daughter Chelsey, and was delighted to make the apple crisp for supper.

We have been overwhelmed with email, Xanga, and Facebook notes and prayers – and phone calls today. Special thanks to Rose Gehman for coming to visit me in the waiting room.
It’s been a good day!

This is my sister, her daughter Chelsey, and our granddaughter Lydia (from Maine) – taken Wednesday when I took them out for breakfast to celebrate Nancy’s birthday.

An Update On Cerwin’s Surgery
He is having the torn rotator cuff tendon repaired tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:20 p.m. His surgeon is Dr. Westphal.
We appreciate your concern and prayers.

If you missed the story of his fall, go: here..
I will sing for joy in God, explode in praise from deep in my soul!
He dressed me up in a suit of salvation, he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness.

Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.

Lunch on Jere & Kristen’s Deck
Saturday & Sunday, June 7
Granddaughters Elizabeth and Hannah (left & right) and their friend Serena stayed at our house for the weekend – to attend a wedding. This picture was taken on Saturday evening.
Serena and Elizabeth – Sunday lunch at Jere’s
Lunch is ready.
Our daughter Deb had the three little boys all week so Jere and Kristen could give their full attention to preparing for the benefit auction. The lunch happened because she was returning the boys, and to eat some of the food Jere’s purchased at the auction.
Prayer
A fruit pizza that Jere and Kristen bought at the auction yesterday.
Jana and Abigail having a “staring contest”
Ian using finger jello for sunglasses
Jared trying it too
Jesse enjoying a whoopie pie for dessert.

Then it was time for us to leave for the next party – a graduation celebration for a niece’s daughter. More about that tomorrow night.
Counting on God’s Rule to prevail, I take heart and gain strength.

LAMS Benefit Auction
Saturday, June 6
This is one of our favorite ” just sit and enjoy days” each year, because someone else is doing all the work.
We arrived in time for breakfast and the beginning of the auction. Cerwin and Lydia enjoyed breakfast while I got our auction number. The buffet breakfast is too much food for me, so I just purchased a cup of coffee and enjoyed the auction.
Before long it was time for the landscape auction. I usually get a few flowers for our flower beds.
My only purchase this year – two beautiful hibiscus plants.
When leaving, I came upon Kristen (our daughter-in-law) taking photos of the flowers – probably for next year’s auction book.
Galen and one of his grandchildren checked out the theme baskets – one of the highlights of the auction.
Gift baskets at LAMS are rarely a bargain, but I did manage to buy one – a basket filled with pretty paper and plastic supplies for a picnic or party: napkins, tablecloth, plates, plasticware.
You will notice many orange shirts at the auction. That means they are part of the auction committee.
Kristen and Jere (Executive Auction Coordinators) visit with a mother of LAMS students.
Another highlight of the sale is “class projects” – items that have been made by each class.
Each kindergarten class (two of them) put hand prints on a small picnic table.
Ian’s hand print.
Jere and Kristen would have liked to purchase this table, but it went higher than they wanted to bid.
Her parents made Jana happy when they were able to purchase the bundle of hand-stamped cards designed by her fourth grade class.
There are also very few bargains on the beautiful quilts and comforters.
I enjoy seeing some of the general items sell, but bid on very few, because we don’t need ‘things.”
I decided to bid on a container (about a quart) of ham and bean soup made by C B. Horst, a friend of ours, as well as a grandparent of several school students. I figured a quart of soup can’t be too expensive. Wrong! I paid $19.00 to get a taste of this wonderful stuff.
Thanks, C.B. It is delicious – and we are eating it slowly.
Kristen and Jere watch the sale of a rocking chair.
Jana (grandaughter) and her good friend Renee enjoy lollipops – the reason Jana’s lips were blue in the earlier picture – with the handcrafted cards.
Our friend, Jere, holds a fresh flower arrangement that decorated tables in the food tent. These were sold on auction at the end of the day.
I noticed Kristen’s mom trying to figure out what to do with her reserved sign when she was ready to go home. Her daughter’s back looked like a good idea.
All leftover food and drinks are sold at the end of the day. And you would be wrong if you think you are going to get a deal here. These sold for something like $10 to $14 each!
Cerwin left the sale early to take our sister-in-law, Anne, to the Harrisburg airport for a trip to Rome – where my brother Clair is working right now.
After that, Cerwin stayed here and mowed the yard until Lydia and I got home. It was a beautiful evening to wash the CRV.
While taking those last two pictures, I noticed these pretty blooms. I don’t remember what this perennial is called, but I am sure that someone out there does.

I had a fun day.
