Installing Two Shop Windows for Deb

Saturday, September 26

We were up early enough to enjoy a pretty sunrise on the way to our daughter Deb’s house.

The first job was to remove the interior siding where a window would be installed.

David pulled nails from lumber that had been removed.

Back at the shop, Deb’s Amish neighbor Daniel arrived to give assistance with his tools and expertise.

Mickey can hardly handle being inside the house with all the activity in the yard.

Deb finally gave the boys permission to let him outside.

Mickey just ran and ran while the boys chased her.

The guys were happy to have the job finished by the middle of the afternoon.

I enjoyed checking out the pretty foliage in Deb’s yard – not far from the shop.

Tomorrow night:  A family reunion and a birthday party.

Solar Blinds

Thursday, September 24

1.jpg

Our new solar blinds arrived just before we went to Maine, so when we got back, we were anxious to see how they looked.

1 (1).JPG

It had been a bit of a journey until we decided on solar blinds.

I would have preferred to not use any blinds or curtains, because they would cover up the new windows and block our view in the front of the house (kitchen and living room) where privacy is not an issue.  But the position of the sun in fall and winter makes something necessary.

1 (2).JPG

We shopped at two stores – looking for the right thing and asking questions about solar blinds.  The employees at both stores were not very knowledgeable or helpful.  Cerwin wanted information on the hardware, and needed to know if they could be hung in our windows.

Internet research informed us that JC Penny also sold these Bali blinds.  The sales lady at Penny’s was incredibly helpful, and even told us about a sale coming up in a few days – which saved us 72%!  Guess where we bought our blinds?

1 (3).JPG

I wanted something that blended into our window trim when not being used.

1 (5).JPG

One of these blinds also worked perfectly for our front door.  Without a blind, the late afternoon sun shines right in our faces in fall and winter, when we sit in our reclining chairs.

1 (6).JPG

We wanted something that blocked the sun, but still allowed us to see outside.

1 (7).JPG

They are just what I wanted.

Tomorrow night:  Installing windows in Deb’s shop.

House & Yard Scenery

At Mark & Diane’s Place

September 21 & 22

After returning from our walk, I took a few pictures around their yard.

On days when Mark is not driving motorcoach, he enjoys fletching arrows for orders he receives from his online archery business.

Later in the day, Diane gave each of us a Maine t-shirt.

1 (10).JPG

It’s become a tradition to treat them to pizza from Papa John’s when we stay at their place.  I think this one is spinach.

 Barbecued chicken

 A bit of everything

After the dishes and leftovers were put away, we had a fun evening playing Scum.

1 (15).JPG

And before we knew it, Wednesday morning had arrived, and it was time to set our Garmin for home.

1 (16).JPG

We saw a few more beautiful fall colors before leaving Maine.

Two Days in Maine

September 21 & 22

1.jpg

I love when I get to spend time with Michelle (coolmomofeight) here when we visit Maine.  She lives a short distance from Mark and Diane and came to their house on Monday morning.  Thanks, Michelle, for taking time to visit.  I treasure your friendship.

1 (1).JPG

Much of the foliage in Maine was somewhere between green and yellow when we were there – and for some reason, I am finding these muted colors especially beautiful this year.  I think I must usually overlook this pretty period of time – between summer’s green and autumn’s brilliant orange and red.

1 (2).JPG

These pictures were taken when Diane, Lydia, and I walked a short distance to the daycare center where Hannah works.

This section of the river sometimes flows toward the ocean (when the tide is going out), sometimes stands still (just before the tide goes in or out), and sometimes flows west – when the tide is coming in.

She loves this job and is a great caregiver for these preschool children.

We stopped at the greenhouse across the street from Mark and Diane’s house.

There will be another set of Maine pictures tomorrow night.

Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary Party

Our Daughter Diane and Son-in-Law Mark

Part 2

Sunday, September 20

1a.JPG

Mark and Diane enjoyed greeting friends as they stopped in – 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. – for the celebration.

Our granddaughters made delicious mini sandwiches:  homemade rolls filled with ham and cheese or turkey and cheese.  If I remember correctly they brushed a sweet/sour mixture on top, before baking them.

They used pretzel sticks for picking up meat balls.

Parties are always a great time to visit with friends.
