Ministry Maintenance

…a new chapel, and another pretty sunset

January 11-15

Last week.jpg

Monday: Cerwin loaded the TFC pickup truck for a chapel maintenance trip to Virginia and North Carolina.

It’s a good thing I took a few pictures at home. He took his camera along, but forgot to take pictures.

For that reason, I searched my archives for photos. Tuesday: Cerwin picked up Glenn Fahnestock (above) at 5:00 a.m. After an uneventful trip, they arrived at Greensboro, North Carolina, in the early afternoon.

They completed the repairs during the afternoon and evening – before getting a motel for the night.

Last week a (4).jpg

Wednesday: They left the motel about 7:30 a.m., stopped at Wytheville, Virginia, about 10:00 a.m., repaired the entrance door, took care of few other maintenance  needs, and arrived back home in Pennsylvania by 9:00 p.m.

Last week a (5).jpg

Thursday: He was back in his shop at the TFC Headquarters Office where he began looking over the trailer that was donated for the next chapel. It will be placed at Whitestown TA Travel Center, I-65, Exit 130 (State Road 334), Indianapolis, Indiana.

Last week a (6).jpg

He is excited to begin construction on another chapel, and had fun looking over his current supplies and ordering new things.

Last week a (7).jpg

Friday: Our work week closed with another pretty sunset.

If you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach.

A Recap of Last Week’s Weather

Cold

1.jpg

I love winter sunrises. Maybe they seem especially beautiful because of the bare, frozen landscape.

1a (1).JPG

Everything looked cold last week – even our pretty valley.

1a (2).JPG

Cornstalks were frozen and lifeless.

1a (3).JPG

How do birds survive below freezing temperatures?

1a (4).JPG

Our country streams looked frigid.

1a (5).JPG

If these are the Canada Geese who visit this pond each spring to hatch and train their goslings, they were in for a frozen surprise.

1a (6).JPG

This Lady Beetle was grateful to come inside when somebody opened the door.

1a (7).JPG

Many of our local birds seemed grateful for the bird feeders.

And then there was one of the most beautiful sunsets of this winter.  It lit up the entire western sky, with orange reflections in the east, and north, and south.

Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won’t regret it; never let her go—she’ll make your life glorious. She’ll garland your life with grace, she’ll festoon your days with beauty.

A Visiting Niece & Truck Rally Meeting

January 9 & 10

Visiting Niece

~~~
1aa.jpg
After Chuck E Cheese’s and the mall, we returned our grandchildren to their parents, then went to Cerwin’s sister’s house where their daughter Denise was visiting from Florida.
Denise’s nephews Jeremy and Shtefan played a computer game while the adults visited.
Truck Rally Meeting
~~~

1aa (4).JPG

Gene and Rose Gehman, Truck Rally Coordinators, led the meeting in our garage on Sunday afternoon.

1aa (5).JPG

If you receive Peterbilt’s First Class magazine, do not miss the article about Gene in the newest issue.

1aa (6).JPG

Peterbilt did a great story on him.

Back to the Rally meeting.

This is the core group who keeps the Truck Rally running smoothly on the fourth Saturday of each June.

1aa (8).JPG

Left to right: Earl and Joyce Eby coordinate clean up.  Bruce and Diane Gouldey oversee truck parking before and after the parade of trucks. Nelson and Nancy Martin organize the parade by making contacts (fire police and traffic cordination). Cerwin and I work with Gene and Rose on advertising and basic organization of the day.

1aa (9).JPG

Fay and Marv Sauder organize the evening barbecue meal. John and Naomi Peachey, Eunice and Paul Sensenig, and Corby and Vanessa Russell work with the CDL Roadeo. Paul and Eunice want to take a back seat on this committee and are training Corby and Vanessa to take their place.

The CDL Roadeo is an obstacle course where a driver’s skill is tested.

Missing committee members: Jere and Kristen High coordinate the benefit auctions.  Barry and Lucy Grim oversee camper parking.  Leverne Wise plans the car parking. Randy and Karen Sauder have the toughest job of the day, as they are in charge of those who judge the trucks. There are usually 200+ trucks.  Don Hollinger takes excellent photos, and Sam Rittenhouse works in the vendor room, helping vendors find their correct spot.

~~~
The other year we asked each commitee leader to count the number of people who volunteer to help on the day of the rally.  The grand total of volunteers was 233.
1aa (12).JPG
 After the meeting, Cerwin and I provided a meal.  Alvin and Anna Mae Wise and Harold and Marian Stauffer arrived at suppertime for the next meeting.
After the meal, those not involved in TFC’s Dinner Concert at Yoder’s Restaurant on March 27 left, and the rest of us worked on the menu, cost, and a few other details for the evening.
~~~

So concluded a busy weekend.

Going to the Mall

Saturday, January 9

1a.jpg

While the girls shopped with Cerwin, Roy, and me, Deb took the boys to the play area near the Food Court in Park City’s Mall.

 1aa (2).jpg

It was an area where young children can craw over and play on top of creative items, and just have fun.

1aa (1).jpg

I took these pictures after joining Deb and the boys.

1aa (3).jpg

They had so much fun in an area that was “free” and nothing was “moving” except the children.

1aa (4).jpg

1aa (5).jpg

1aa (6).jpg

1aa (7).jpg

1aa (8).jpg

1aa (9).jpg

The older girls joined the adults in watching, as there was a height limit for being in the play area.

1aa (10).jpg

1aa (11).jpg

As long as drink was provided, they played for a long time.

1aa (12).jpg

Then it was time to leave, and while Cerwin went for the van, we waited in the warm as it was a frigid day. With so many grandchildren, we had to drive in two vehicles.  Deb, Roy, and David were in another vehicle, as they came from a different direction.

1aa (13).jpg

The younger ones needed one more ride – and the escalator was nearby.

1aa (14).jpg

1aa (15).jpg

It was a fun day!

I celebrate and shout because of my LORD God. His saving power and justice are the very clothes I wear. They are more beautiful than the jewelry worn by a bride or a groom.
