A Delightful Day

Saturday, January 9

1aa.jpg

As I was admiring the pretty sunrise – from my La-Z-Boy – I noticed the unusual vertical light, and almost stumbled over myself when hurrying to get the camera.

It was so unusual, and lasted less than a minute.

Doesn’t this look nice and cozy and quiet…

1aa (2).JPG

…and delicious?

Don’t you wonder were we are?

~~~
We’re not alone.
This is our youngest daughter, Deb…
…and her friend Roy.
~~~

It’s not quiet.

There are eight grandchildren with us – four boys and four girls…

Snow In Our Neighborhood

Friday, January 8

Friday 1 (1).jpg

Friday, January 8, dawned beautiful and slightly foggy – with a dusting of overnight snow on the ground.

Friday 1 (9).jpg

I didn’t notice these acorns – still clinging to their branches – until Friday morning when they were silhouetted in the morning sunshine.

Friday 1 (10).jpg

I hung my new (Christmas gift) birdfeeders after our return from Maine.

Friday 1 (11).jpg

 The birds are cautious about eating here, but they are slowly checking it out.

Friday 1 (12).jpg

The goldfinches seem to like this one.

Friday 1 (13).jpg

There is also a new ground area sprinkled with birdfeed.

Friday 1 (14).jpg

It was a cold, windy afternoon, but Cerwin wanted the driveway cleared.

Because He is God

…and I Am Not

1a.jpg

I have been checking airline prices almost every day for the past month – ever since we decided to attend the February wedding of our niece Judi who lives near Bemidji, Minnesota.

The first time I checked, the price was about $440.00. I didn’t know if that was high or low for current prices, so we decided to keep checking. However, every day I checked since then, the price has been $540.00 or more.

This morning when I was going through my prayer list, and adding recent needs, I remembered the airline prices, and thought, “I haven’t asked God to help us find a good price on tickets.”

The instant I breathed the prayer, I felt an urge to check the price. “But I’m praying,” I thought. It was almost like “someone” was compelling me to check the price.

If there is one thing I don’t want to miss in life, it is responding to the Holy Spirit’s promptings – whether it’s to call someone on the phone, encourage someone, avoid something – or find a good airline ticket price J.

The price was $440.00 again (total with taxes), and the connections in Detroit and Minneapolis were decent. I wanted to make sure connections are not too tight, because we are taking Cerwin’s mother along, and she is ninety-two years old.

I called Cerwin who was traveling to North Carolina to repair a chapel.  He said, “Book them.”  So I have our tickets.

1aa (2).JPG

On the way to Curves, I thanked God for the generosity He showed us this morning.

Then I asked Him, “But money is so immaterial. I have other more important prayer requests that You haven’t answered, and I’ve been praying for some of them for years. This was the first time I asked You to help us with the plane ticket prices. Why.”

1aa (3).JPG

He said, “Because I am God and you are not.”

1aa (5).JPG

I laughed outloud.

Guess what I am asking God to teach me this year? I am asking Him to teach me that He is God and I am not.

1aa (6).JPG

I need constant reminders that I cannot make things happen in another person’s life. I cannot make someone follow the Lord or do His will. I cannot change anyone’s financial situation. I cannot keep anyone safe from disease or accidents.

1aa (7).JPG

So if airline prices go even lower, I’m convinced that these are the flights we are supposed to take. After hearing some crazy flight experiences lately, I asked God to direct us to the flights where He wants us – whatever that means.

1aa (10).JPG

I love the peace there is in serving God!

I love that He cares about every detail in my life – and yours.

I love that He is God and I am not.

Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.

Those Who Chose Car Wash Were Correct

…and a few nice gifts

Monday, January 4

1 (19).jpg

If you chose car wash for my mystery photo last night – you were correct.

1a (1).jpg

This car wash is not far from our house, and Cerwin likes it because (if he moves fast enough) it only costs $1.00.

1a (2).jpg

He has a dislike for pulling a car into our garage that is covered with road salt.

(He also has a dislike for paying a lot of money at a regular car wash  – and it’s too cold to wash our car outside at home.)

Gifts I forgot to photograph while in Maine

~~~
1a (3).JPG
Lydia, our youngest Maine granddaughter, made this pretty candle by using stamping items.
The candle was purchased. She then stamped these birdhouses on a piece of tissue paper, trimmed it close to the design, placed it in the correct spot on the candle, covered it with wax paper (to protect the tissue paper), then attached the stamped tissue paper to the candle by using a heat gun.
1a (4).JPG
The other side of the candle.
This makes a really cute and classy-looking candle.
1a (5).JPG
Then there was this delicious gift of homemade granola from our daughter Diane: regular; tropical with raisins; cranberry walnut; tropical; and chocolate peanut butter.
YUM!
The tropical is my favorite.
~~~

Thanks, Lydia and Diane.

More Travel Scenery

…during our trip home from Maine

Monday, January 4

1 (1).jpg

I was kind of surprised at how long we saw pretty snow scenes.

1 (2).jpg

We would go for periods of time when we saw scenes like this, and other times we saw very little snow along the road.

1 (3).jpg

Enjoy our drive.

The only time we had do deal with slow traffic was in northern Massachusetts where we moved at a crawl for about half an hour.

I always like to check out this view in New York state. On a clear day you can see rows of mountain ranges in the distance.

Just before arriving home, this was the scene in front of me. Can you guess what it is?
