Eightieth Birthday Party
For Sam Rittenhouse
Sunday, January 31
After church we had lunch at a local restaurant with Bunny and Peg and Murray and June before making the one hour and forty-five minute drive to Lansdale for Sam’s party.
Partway into the trip we picked up our friend Les (black coat). Sam (teal shirt) was already enjoying many of his friends when we arrived.
He was especially surprised to see Murray and June who had come from Ontario, Canada.
If I remember correctly, Sam said there were more than one-hundred guests.
Sam and Alice
We arrived just after the cake was cut, so I asked their daughter Eunice to email me one of their photos.
They also took this photo. Thanks Dan and Eunice.
The card box.
We have been serving with him in TFC since 1990, and count him as a wonderful friend and confidant.

Overnight Guests
Friday and Saturday – January 30 & 31
Our granddaughter Abigail discovered there was room for her in the vanload of women who traveled here from Maine for the Women’s Day of Refreshment – which I featured the last few days.
It was a quick trip, and we saw so little of her that I had forgot to take a picture and had to use one from our latest trip to Maine. She was successful in surprising Nathaniel – which pleased her (and him) greatly.
She had called a few days earlier to see if “her room” was available for Friday and Saturday night. I said her room wasn’t available, but we certainly wanted her to stay here. This time we set up her bedroom in our office. An air mattress on the floor made a good place to sleep, and an empty desk and mirror provided a great dressing and combing area.
The reason our guest room wasn’t available was that our friends June and Murray, from Ontario, Canada, were visiting on Saturday night.
Because I had a busy week, and was out of the house all day Saturday, I suggested to Cerwin that we take them to a local restaurant for supper.
My spinach/bacon quiche.
Our fourth visitor was Murray and June’s sweet pooch, Sissy.
We rarely have a dog in our house, but it was fun having her little busy body here.
After a good night’s rest, and before going to church on Sunday, June took Sissy for her morning walk.

You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept.

Part IV ~ Afternoon Session
~~~
After lunch and worship in song, Theda introduced “Cardboard Testimonies.”
Cardboard testimonies begin with a written challenge, burden, struggle, or pain on one side of the cardboard…
…and the victory written on the reverse side.
I took these photos without a flash, so some are a bit blurry.
There was no talking – making this an inspiring time.
As the ladies moved across the front of the church, I realized that I could give you a better view if I went to the back of the church.
Praising God in song
Theda prayed for Bernice before her afternoon session.
Women Empowered by the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit…
…came to dwell in us. I Corinthians 6:19
…convicts us of sin. John 16:7-11
…leads us to truth. John 16:3
…is our source to Christ-like qualities Galatians. 5:22-23
~~~
Bernice closed her part by asking us to read this in unison.
I am a woman of God, I am going forth with a fresh anointing from God, and a renewed commitment to be the woman God planned me to be. I am empowered with the Holy Spirit to do God’s will in my life, home, church, and community. To God be the Glory!

Our closing song
(sung to the tune of Edelweiss)
~~~
While the ladies said goodbye to each other, cardboard testimonies rested on the front bench…
…and snowmen remained in their decorative places.
It was a day of refreshment – just as planned.
Lisa said it best on her Facebook page. “I feel like I was hugged by God today.”
Tomorrow night: Weekend Visitors
~~~
If you are familiar with what is happening tonight (Friday, February 5) in the north east…
…you know this snowman says it well. We are supposed to get 8-12″ (or more) of snow during the night.
Let me rise in the morning and live always with you!

Part III ~ Lunch
~~~
Several young girls were lighting candles…
…and a few men were putting fruit salad on the tables when we arrived for lunch.
Lunch is looking quite appetizing.
When everything was ready, Brenda began filling bowls with tortellini soup or corn chowder.
Nobody enjoys a delicious lunch (that someone else cooked), a delightful atmosphere, and wonderful conversation more than a group of women.
The ladies who sat next to me – Lois, Erma, Cookie (purple), Doris (standing), and Vanessa.
My tray of tortellini soup, salad, bread, and cookies.
