The Day I Celebrated My Birth
Monday, February 8
I liked what the morning sunrise did to these icicles.
After preparing some TFC mail for the post office, we went shopping for new flooring for the kitchen. Cerwin had done lots of research, after which we settled on laminate. We gathered information on the internet, then visited two local business where we gathered more valuable information – and two samples (because we couldn’t decide which one went best with our kitchen.) We settled on the sample to the left.
I like this distressed look and the way it pulled all the colors of our kitchen together.
In the early evening, we went to Lilly’s on Main for my birthday supper.
We rarely go to this restaurant, but I like how they prepare and present their food. We like to reserve a table overlooking Main Street so we can watch traffic and people.

Cranberry Bread
My Salad
Because of the sun, we pulled the curtain for pictures. Our gracious waitress, Amber.
I ordered Amish Duck, duck sausage, wheat berry pilaf and asparagus. I have to be in a mood of wanting something unusual to order duck. It was delicious.
Cerwin’s meal was New York Sirloin, asparagus, and baked potato.
Street lights just below the window where we were sitting.
Dessert Choices
Cerwin decided against dessert, but gladly tasted a few spoonfuls of my Lemon Gelato – a delicious frozen lemon mixture.

It is delightful to have a birthday.

Remnants of Friday’s Snow
The Super Bowl
Sunday, February 7
…and the blizzard that blasted the northeast today
The Sunday morning scenery was beautiful. Many churches were closed, but ours wasn’t affected because the snowfall in our area was less than in many other local places.
During the afternoon, I was fascinated as this snow slowly melted and slid to the edge of the roof.
In the process there was a lot of dripping going on.
By evening the snow was so close to the edge of the roof that the icicles were leaning toward the house.
By dark, they were still there – and only slipped off the roof about noon Monday.
My sister, Nancy, and her husband, Marlin, came to watch the Super Bowl – and eat supper. We each provided food – chicken corn soup, sandwiches, pizza dip with nachos, fruit, cheesecake, and cookies.
Their daughter Chelsey making a chicken salad sandwich.
None of us had strong feelings about who should win, so we were happy for the Saints.

Today – Wednesday, February 10
The next three pictures are for the benefit of our Maine children and grandchildren, and those who are wondering if we received any of the wind and snow that traveled through the northeast today.
Our mailbox this afternoon.
The view from our back door.
I haven’t seen this much snow and wind in many years – and I loved it.
Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.

Another Snow Storm!
Friday & Saturday ~ February 5 & 6
Again, the birds knew they better eat now.
It was a good thing they ate up on Friday, because this is what happened to their feeders during the night.
My early Saturday morning view of our feeders.
Our front yard
We had about a foot of snow – not much compared to those just five miles to our south – as they received twenty inches. Our youngest daughter who lives an hour to our south received more that two feet.
I had just gotten up to get my second cup of coffee when I noticed this blazer coming up the road, and soon realized it was our oldest son, Jeff. He always did enjoy the challenge of maneuvering through snow. He was just opening the door when I snapped this picture.
After a short visit, he prepared for the six-mile trip home.
What does a mother do with a son who likes anything that challenges his driving skills?
Pray!
This neighborhood milk truck driver probably wished he could be at home.
The suet was popular with the birds, because it seemed to resist the snow.
We don’t often see snowmobiles but the open fields in front of us were popular with these three.
Cerwin opened our driveway after lunch.
The sky cleared by late afternoon…
…and the temperature went high enough to melt our driveway. (Cerwin was glad he took time to open it a few hours earlier.)
I never imagined that this snowy, cloudy, wintry day would close with a beautiful sunset.
Icicles on the house roof reflected the evening sun
So ended a wintry Saturday.
It is clear to us, friends, that God not only loves you very much but also has put his hand on you for something special.

Birds and Snow
Tuesday & Wednesday ~ February 2 & 3
The birds knew that snow was coming, because our feeders were busy on Tuesday.
This is what it looked like when we went to bed on Tuesday night.
I was anxious to see what the landscape looked like when I woke up on Wednesday.
By daylight I could see the three or four inches of snow that had fallen while we slept.
I wanted to just stand at the windows and look at the white snow and pretty scenery, because the temperature was supposed to get above freezing, so I knew that most of this would be gone by evening.
I love snow. I love winter.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
