Olde Time Country Auction

Lititz Area Mennonite School

Part 2 of 2

Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4

 2 (1)

Our son Jere (Executive Auction Coordinator, along with his wife Kristen) opened the auction with words of welcome, and asked retiring school principal, Ken Fry, to give the invocation.

2 (3)

Singer/songwriter/musician/ukulele player/radio station manager/on air personality (Phredd) Fred NcNaughton and his son auctioned this kids tool set to advertise the Children’s Entertainment which was coming up in a few minutes.

2 (4)

2 (5)

When bidding got slow, one of the auctioneers picked up Fred’s son to increase the bids. It worked!

2 (6)

I arrived about 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning in time for the Landscape and Plant Auction.

2 (7)

2 (8)

2 (9)

Then I spent the rest of the morning and afternoon enjoying the main auction.

Going outside to get french fries.

2 (15)

The auction committee bought this bench (which had been signed by all LAMS students) and presented it to to Mr. Fry as a retirement gift.

2 (16)

I resisted much temptation, and bought only two items – one of which was this delicious pickled five bean salad made by our friends C.B. and Doris Horst. This picture makes me want to have a spoonful before I go to bed!

2 (17)

The other thing I bid on and purchased was this target buck for Cerwin to fine-tune his archery skills.

~~~
I loved sitting around for the entire day – just watching people and the auction.
Olde Time Country Auction
Lititz Area Mennonite School
Part 1 of 2
Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4
1 (1)
I know Barbie (left) and Sharon (right), but do not know the name of the lady in the center.
The Pantry Cupboard with all its delicious looking items was one of the first things I saw when I entered the school.
1 (3)
1 (4)
1 (5)
In the main auction room (the gym) I checked out the items for sale. This picnic table was hand printed by Jared’s (grandson) kindergarten class.
1 (6)
1 (7)
This bag was filled with $200 worth of gift cards from area grocery stores. It was created by Ian’s (grandson) class. Each student acquired one gift card from their favorite grocery store.
1 (8)
Theme baskets are a hit at this auction.
1 (9)
Miscellaneous items on the stage.
1 (11)
1 (12)
1 (13)
Food is a big deal here.
1 (14)
Each table is decorated with beautiful centerpieces which were sold throughout the afternoon on Saturday.
1 (16)
1 (15)
Friday’s supper menu. My favorites were the roast beef and gourmet cheesy potatoes.
1 (17)
A beautiful painting for sale.
I enjoyed relaxing at this auction during most of Friday evening and all day Saturday, while Cerwin worked at the TFC shop, putting finishing touches on the newest chapel.
More tomorrow night.
Class of 1961-50th School Reunion
Part 1of 3 – Sight & Sound
Thursday, June 2 & Saturday, June 4
~~~

My high school class of 1961 committee did a great job of organizing several events for this weekend. After they scheduled a social for Friday night, a tour of the school on Saturday morning, a banquet for Saturday evening, and a brunch for Sunday morning, Glenn and Shirley Eshleman, co-founders of Sight and Sound, offered the entire class a free showing of Joseph on Thursday afternoon. (Shirley graduated in our class.)

Cerwin and I chose to go to Sight and Sound and Saturday night’s banquet.

~~~
We were delighted to receive free tickets to this show.
Pictures cannot be taken during the show, so I took a few photos of the program guide.
Joseph is an amazing production. One of my classmates told me that she had never been to Sight and Sound, and thought it was better than any Broadway show she has ever seen.
Joseph’s reunion with his father.
It is an amazing story on the power of forgiveness.
I will post photos from Saturday nights banquet tomorrow night.
