Friday Evening, May 22 Cerwin saw the ad for this drive-through meal on Facebook and asked if I wanted to go out to eat on Friday evening – and suggested going to our friends at Country Home Catering. It was a rainy evening – but not a problem with drive-through. 🙂 How nice to come […]

Yard and Field

Thursday, May 21 The field in front of us was being sprayed early in the morning – 7:00 am – just like the one across the road was done yesterday. The corn planting began in the late afternoon – 4:00 pm. In this photo it is easy to see the 12-row planter. My dad would […]

Preparing the Fields for Planting

Wednesday, May 20 When I saw this large sprayer in the homestead fields, I knew the next step was no-till planting. Interesting that this spray will kill the previous grass crop and prepare the field for the next crop. Stay tuned – I photographed the planting as well. 🙂

Sunday Afternoon Happenings

May 17, 2020 I enjoyed watching this Carolina Wren on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Wrens are fun to have in a feeding area. I enjoy their song, watching them build nests and just generally being at our feeders. They can be scrappy if another bird is in their territory. We had an afternoon TFC Global […]

Bald Eagle in Our Neighborhood.

Sunday Morning, May 17 Our niece Karen called from the farm asking if I was interested in seeing a bald eagle. It took me a while to locate it on the powerline pole. I drove toward the dairy barn to get a closer look. Larry said it was enjoying breakfast earlier in the morning – […]

Brown Thrasher – My Favorite Bird Visitor During the Second Week of May

Saturday, May 16 This is not the first time I saw a Brown Thrasher in our feeding area, but they are not here as often as other birds. I enjoyed watching it break an almond. It was apparently too large to eat whole, so it broke the almond by “attacking” it with its beak. The […]

Raking the Rye

Friday, May 15 There was rain since he cut the rye on Tuesday, so this young Amish man raked this for three hours – trying to get it dried. We thought they would bale it during the late afternoon, but it was still there when I went to bed. Cerwin went to bed an hour […]

Snow on May 9

We were told that temperatures were going to get down to freezing and some areas would get snow during the night, so I was not surprised to see our morning landscape powdered with snow. The grosbeaks – who just migrated into our area – must have thought, “What have I gotten into by flying north?” […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (2 are in Heaven), and 19 great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
