Rain!

It seems to rain so easily during the past few weeks – usually in the late afternoon or evening.

It’s raining lightly as I enter this.

1 (1)

On many evenings – long before dusk – the skies became dark.

1 (2)

Heavy rain clouds rolled in – sometimes with a threat of high winds or even a tornado.

1 (3)

This photo was taken two nights after the first photo – even though they look similar.

1 (4)

On Friday night we had heavy rain – some areas just a few miles east of us got more than four inches

1 (5)

1 (6)

 Raindrops are such funny things.
They haven’t feet or haven’t wings.

1 (7)

Yet they sail through the air,
With the greatest of ease,

1 (8)

And dance on the street,
Wherever they please.

– Anon.

Raindrops

rain
drops
drip
down
all
day
long.

1 (11)

drip down,
slip down,
splashing out their song.
thunder-crashing
splishing
splashing,
slipping,
dripping,
raining down
their rainy
raindrop
song.

The rain was so heavy it looked like a waterfall coming down between these trees.

Pavilion Cleanup in the Woodlot

Monday, May 28

A Family Project

DSC_0035

We went to the pavilion early because I still had some weedeating to do before family members arrived.

I don’t like to weedeat near those who are raking leaves and leftover debris from winter.

DSC_0037

We had Jere and Kristen’s youngest children while they worked on cleaning out the house for their friend – see my June 1 entry.

The boys brought their own wheelbarrows and rakes.

Jesse told grandpa that he needed to pee. Grandpa said, “Go pee against a tree.” He did!  There is a bathroon with the pavilion, but he forgot about that.

My responsibility is to bring the drink. On this day it was water, mint tea, and a mixture of orange juice, lemonade, and mint tea.

By ten o’clock most of the others had arrived.

Deb, Jana, Chelsey, and Nancy (my sister)

Mother always takes on the job of cleaning the pavilion bathroon and sweeping the pathway.

When we have a lot of good workerss (and we did), we can get the job finished in two hours.

Oh, Look!

I love the additions to our bird feeding area because it is attracting new birds and critters.

Helping Jere & Kristen

Clean Out a House for Their Friend

Saturday, May 26

1 (1)

Who could this be?

1 (2)

Ian was having fun with these white curtains before throwing them over the second-floor balcony.

1 (3)

Jared carrying something down from the attic.

1 (4)

Jesse

The younger boys had fun doing this, because they could throw things from the balcony to the ground where Jere, Cerwin, and Josh carried them to a trailer to be hauled away.

1 (5)

The street-side attic (third floor) was what Kristen wanted to empty today – because this was their friend’s storage area.

1a

After we got rid of empty boxes and things that were not worth keeping, the room looked much better.

2

This room had been full and the floor was covered with old strips of carpet that were tacked to the floor.

DSC_0050

However, the other, almost empty attic room is now full of things for Jere and Kristen to go through and decide if it is worth selling, keeping, or should be thrown away.

DSC_0051

This is an old row house (more than ninety years old) with two or three rooms on each level – basement; first floor (living room, dining room, and kitchen); second floor (two bedrooms, bathroom, and a small storage room inside the balcony; and the third floor attic with two rooms.

DSC_0056

Josh and Josiah had the most difficult job of the day – bringing an old clawfoot bathtub in from the balcony. I expect it was put there when they installed a shower in the bathroom.

DSC_0057

Jere helped them maneuver it around the corner from the second floor to the first floor.

DSC_0058

Kristen wants to keep this, so they are taking it home for a makeover. She is not sure what she is going to do with it, but knows she wants it.

Their ninety-two-year-old friend, a widow, just went to a elder-care home, and gave them permission to keep what they can use. He was born in this house.

Ready to leave

After lunch Jana and Kristen began going through boxes of stuff on the second floor, sorting things by category.  The balcony is just behind Jana.

While they were doing this, I was on the first floor going through dining room cabinets and sorting things by category: linens; candles; small tools, nails, and screws; pens, pencils, and rulers; small electrical appliances and batteries, similar dishes, silverware, etc.

Cerwin and Jere spent their time loading and hauling two loads of trash away.

By the end of the day we and gone through almost everything in the second and third floor rooms – getting rid of obvious junk, but leaving many boxes of things to be sorted.

Jere and Kristen were very pleased with the amount of work we got done. Now they have the fun of deciding what is worth taking to an auction house and what should go to a second hand or vintage store. I am sure there will be another load or two of trash.

Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

If God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.

Why do you have so little faith?
