Jeff & Chris’ Auction Is This Weekend

6-12-12 (1)

The three big tents were set up on Tuesday.

6-12-12 (4)

It was a very rainy day, but the guys didn’t seem to mind.

6-12-12 (5)

Cerwin liked watching them put the tent stakes in with this machine.

All three tents are ready. Cerwin thinks we should have a camp meeting!

6-14-12 (2)

We were all grateful that today was a beautiful day to put a lot of thing outside.

The box lot tent.

6-14-12 (5)

Chris’ mom and I dusted furniture most of the afternoon – because some pieces had been stored in places like sheds and the barn for the past few months.

6-14-12 (8)

By late afternoon the furniture tent was full and overflowing.

6-14-12 (13)

I think the people who lived here and left the farm to Jeff and Chris must not have ever thrown anything away.

6-14-12 (15)

There is still a lot of stuff in the house.

Sunday Lunch At Our House

DSC_0044

Sabrina’s brother was married on Saturday so she and Nathan were quite dressed up for church. I asked them to pose for a few pictures before they changed to casual dress.

DSC_0047

It was quite sunny outside, so I also asked them to pose for an inside shot.

DSC_0054

Roy and Deb brought most of the lunch. They had Jere and Kristen’s three youngest boys most of the week so they could spend much of their time on the LAMS Auction.

Roy and Deb were bringing the boys back at lunch time, so this is how a family lunch happened. There were twenty-two of us.

Cerwin, me, Jeff, Chris, Nate, Sabrina, Jenna, Diana, Gloria, Nathaniel, Abigail, Josiah, Jere, Kristen, Josh, Jana, Ian, Jared, Jesse, Roy, Deb, and Joram – a friend of our grandsons.

Deb & Roy

Jere and Kristen surprised Roy and Deb with a first anniversary cake.

This raccoon cake was to make sure we had plenty of cake for everyone.

Many were tired from a busy week, so they left soon after lunch to take advantage of Sunday afternoon naps.

LAMS School Auction

2012 Truck Driving Championships

Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9

LAMS and HAC (1)

It was good for my body, soul, and mind to spend Friday evening and the entire day Saturday relaxing at Lititz Area Mennonite School Olde Time Country Auction.

Gift baskets (above) are popular items at this auction.

This was one of my favorite items, but it sold (Saturday) for more than I was willing to pay. This is not an auction where you get many bargains.

LAMS and HAC (10)

Our son Jere (Auction Coordinator) opened the auction at 6:30 Friday evening by welcoming those in attendance and inviting Mr. Garner (school principal) to pray for God’s blessing on the Friday and Saturday events.

Junk Rock Drums were asked to come to the auction platform to give us a preview of how they would be entertaining the children at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday

2012 Truck Driving Championships

At Harrisburg Community College

LAMS and HAC (14)

On Saturday morning (after having a 6:30 breakfast with Jere at LAMS Auction) Cerwin went to the truck driving championships to take his turn at serving on TFC’s chapel.

LAMS and HAC (15)

From PMTA’s website: Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association’s Safety Management Council coordinates the local and state championships. The Truck Driving Championships build confidence and pride among competitors and foster a commitment to safe driving. Drivers must have a safety record that meets the high entry standards; any driver who had an accident in the preceding year cannot compete.

LAMS and HAC (17)

Our friend Ken Martin had his antique truck there for drivers to enjoy.

LAMS and HAC (18)

Cerwin found this three-lane snow plow interesting. It is a new item for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The red plow in the back is part of the rig.

Bunny O’Hare sitting next to the chapel. PMTA believes that it is important for TFC to be there for these activites.

I arrived at LAMS in time for Saturday morning’s auction – about 8:30 a.m.

LAMS and HAC (24)

Our daughter-in-law Chris was already at her post – clerking for the Landscape Auction.

After getting a cup of coffee, I sat down to enjoy the all-day auction.

LAMS and HAC (26)

Our daughter-in-law Kristen handing things to those who were holding up the items for sale, and taking them to the successful bidder.

LAMS and HAC (27)

Cylo, Lancaster Barnstormers Mascot, added a bit of fun to the auction. He had just come from entertaining the children who were on the school’s playground.

LAMS and HAC (28)

LAMS and HAC (30)

Jana (one of our granddaughters) came to show us the picture a caricature artist drew of her. Isn’t that great?

LAMS and HAC (31)

Just before noon Mr. Garner asked Jere and Kristen to come to the stage – to thank them for being on the auction committee for the past nine years.

Each of their children will be attending public school next year, so this is their last year on the committee.

LAMS and HAC (32)

Many children helped sell food items that were left at the end of the day.

My Purchases

LAMS and HAC (34)

I usually bid on a few things that I think we need. One of the items I bid on is C.B. Horst’s homemade ham and bean soup. After the first round of bidding, I didn’t think I would get any this year as several sold for something like $160.00 a quart! The next round was a bit more reasonable.

LAMS and HAC (35)

I got two quarts for $25.00 each. It is delicious.

LAMS and HAC (33)

We need a clock for our garage – when we have family meals or work on labeling TFC’s Highway News. Cerwin and I looked at this on Friday night, and decided that it would be perfect for our garage. It is 30″ in diameter.

I asked him how high I should bid. He said, “Go up to $100.00.” I was pleased to get it for $60.00.

Look What She Is Mothering Now!

DSC_0098

You guessed right! It’s a skunk!

DSC_0099

It’s a five-week-old boy skunk named Keebler

DSC_0103

Deb – our daughter – took their friends Zachary and David with her for the long drive (several hours) to pick him up.

DSC_0088

He was descented today. I read on the internet that they can “spray” before their eyes are open.

DSC_0090

Did you know there is a milk formula just for baby skunks?

DSC_0092

I am “in love”.

DSC_0094

DSC_0095

DSC_0105

He fell asleep just like that.

DSC_0109

Before I knew it, they were on their way home.

~~~
Deb said this one will not be released. A skunk raised in a house cannot be put in the wild as they lack a homing instinct, and a descented one cannot protect itself.
Another Bird Bath Bather
I watched this mourning dove for a few minutes, and thought, “It is getting ready for a bath.”
