Another Evening at the Stoners

8-7-12 (42)

We went back to the Stoner’s again the next night.

Geff Stoners (3)

We waited and waited on the Evening Primrose to bloom. Geff said there were forty new blooms by this morning.

8-7-12 (45)

So while we waited and watched, I took more pictures of Sharyn’s pretty gardens.

Yellow Evening Primrose

At Geff & Sharyn Stoner’s

Geff Stoners (4)

Geff Stoner knows I enjoy flowers and taking pictures, so told us several months ago, that he is going to let us know when their evening primrose are blooming.

Geff Stoners (1)

They bloom at night and by the next evening the bloom has died.

Geff Stoners (2)

We waited and waited but none opened.

Geff Stoners (3)

Geff and Sharyn both remembered that many opened before dark in previous years – but not on this night.

Geff Stoners (5)

So I walked around and took pictures of other things, while we kept checking the primrose.

Geff Stoners (6)

Geff and Cerwin visiting. I forgot to get a photo while Sharyn was outside.

Geff Stoners (7)

Sharyn keeps beautiful flowerbeds and decorates with unique things.

By sunset Geff decided that they must be opening much later than he remembered.

Since they only live a mile from us, we decided to come back again the next night.

Playing Jungle Speed

2 (16)

This is not a game for old grandmas. It is faster than Dutch Blitz.

2 (17)

The game revolves around matching cards with identical symbols or colors. The first to notice gets the yellow totem. There are a variety of reasons to gain or get rid of cards.

2 (18)

I only watched for a short period of time, so didn’t totally understand what was going on.

2 (19)

I do know this – they were having fun.

A Chapel Trip to Belleville

Watts Memorial United Methodist Church

Sunday, August 5

DSC_0019

6:23 a.m. and we’re ready to hit the road.

DSC_0022

Sunrise was behind us.

DSC_0023

This barn would have stories to tell.

Later the sunrise was to our right.

~~~
After this I read a book about the rescue of the coal miners at Quecreek. I rarely read at home. I prefer doing counted cross-stitch when I have nothing else to do. But I love to read when we are traveling…and I had the treasure of one hour and forty-five minutes to do just that.
DSC_0025
It had just stopped raining when we arrived at Watts Memorial.
Cerwin and Bunny set up the chapel steps.
9:00 a.m. – Pastor Doug Pierce welcomed everyone to the worship service.
DSC_0031
When talking to the children, he took them to the window to see the chapel – then talked a bit about trucks and their value to our economy.
DSC_0033
He reminded them that almost everything we have was delivered by a truck.
Bunny O’Hare, TFC’s Director of Pastoral Care, was the speaker. He is the one who asked us to bring the chapel, so it was a nice relaxing day for us. We just had to be there.
DSC_0036
He told lots of interesting stories of things that happened to him when serving on a chapel.
DSC_0038
This congregation usually has Sunday School after worship, but today there was a tour of the chapel. On the way to the chapel everyone could stop for a snack of fruit, sticky buns, Chex mix, drink, and coffee.
I think almost everyone came to the chapel and asked us about TFC’s ministry to truck drivers.
DSC_0039
I had several interesting conversations with some young men who are going through drug and alcohol rehab in a nearby facility.
One told me that he did not grow up in a Christian home, so knew almost nothing about the Bible and serving God before he came here.
I like the quote on their church sign.
Then it was time to put the steps into storage and head home.
Bunny and Peg followed us to a truck stop where we had a delicious lunch.
I love going to churches who are interested in learning about Transport For Christ and meeting new people.
All of our praise rises to the One who is strong enough to make you strong.
Romans 16:25 (The Message)
When Christ died, he died to defeat the power of sin one time—enough for all time.
Romans 6:10 (Easy-to-Read Version)
~~~

The word “enough” is on my mind this morning.

Last night my heart was broken when I read that a blog and Facebook friend’s young grandchild has a serious disease. When searching for words, I wrote,

“It doesn’t seem like enough to tell you that I am praying, but then I realize that it is enough because He is ENOUGH.”

This morning I read this:

Blessed are those who need Him enough,

To know Him enough,

To love Him enough…

To know HE is enough.
