Joshua loves to memorize scripture. On this night he recited Hebrews 11 – all forty verses.

We were truly blessed as we listened to the Bontragers and visited with Marlin and Becky – we sat at the same table.

I hope I got the names right. You can check out their family listing here.

After the banquet, the guests were invited to see the inside of the chapel.

We had lots of visitors.

Do you really love life?
Do you want to be happy?
Then stop saying cruel things and quit telling lies.

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive.

School & Helping Grandpa

September 9 to 12

0 (1)

I had the privilege of taking Jesse to his  first full day of preschool at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church.

0 (2)

Going into the church with one of his teachers.

1 (1)

One afternoon Cerwin asked Ian and Jared to help him pick up sticks. There were a lot of small branches and sticks in our yard from Saturday evening’s (September 9) wind and rain.

1 (2)

They were great helpers.

Hey guys, remind Grandpa that he forgot to pay you!

1 (3)

When they noticed all the shellbarks and acorns, they decided to gather some for Roy and Debbie’s squirrels.

1 (4)

1 (5)

1 (5a)

Ian gathered the shellbarks.

1 (13)

Jared gathered acorns.

1 (6)

While gathering acorns, he found this grasshopper.

1 (9)

Jared is the “bug person” in the family.

1 (11)

When it jumped from his arm, he just watched it crawl up his shirt.

1 (14)

He didn’t even mind when it crawled up the back of his neck and into his hair.

3 (5)

One morning a school bus broke down in front of our house. It wasn’t one that Jana, Ian, or Jared rode. I don’t think there were any children on it yet, but I expect it took a quick change of plans to get another bus for this route.

Jana doing some homework.

We had a great time having Jere and Kristen’s children – Josh, Jana, Ian, Jared, and Jesse – here for several days.

The Way We Were in 1963

Forty-nine Years Ago Today

On our wedding day – just after going through a barrage of rice (notice Cerwin’s hair).

The Way We Are in 2012

Family 2012

On our wedding day there was no way I could have imagined that this would be us forty-nine years later.

We are way beyond blessed that God gave each one of these fabulous people to us.

Cerwin found this perfect card.

I love You, Cerwin Ray High.

You are truly my “other half.”

You keep me balanced.

You love me when I am lovable – and when I am not.

You love me when I am emotionally strong – and when I am not.

You love me when I look nice – and when I don’t.

I love you more today than I could have ever imagined on the day we married.

Sunset

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

DSC_0072

After a day of cloud and wind and rain

Sometimes the setting sun breaks out again

DSC_0073

And touching all the darksome woods with light

Smiles on the fields until they laugh and sing

DSC_0074

Then like a ruby from the horizon’s ring

Drops down into the night.
