Are Your Plans For Today

Good Plans or God’s Plans?

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NIV

Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.  Proverbs 16:3 Living Bible

Yesterday I was invited to a Presidential Review at The White House – well, sort of.

Our grandson Josh and his classmates at LAMS (a local Christian School) are studying the presidents, and each student was asked to choose a president or president’s wife to study and represent in this review.

One of the first things we noticed upon entrance was the “Secret Service”.  They (upper classmen) made sure everyone was safe!

The Chief of Staff (5th grade teacher) introduced us to each president and president’s wife as they made their entrance – telling us interesting highlights about their life.

The procession began with Martha Washington (above) and ended with George W. Bush.

Because I was grandmother to our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, I was most anxious to see him!

Josh had learned and documented several things about Teddy in the school’s Presidential Library:  the Wright Brothers flew their first plane during his administration; the teddy bear was named after him; and his metal eye glass case saved him from being hurt or killed by a bullet in an assassination attempt.

Finally it was time for our grandson’s entrance!

Isn’t he the most handsome Theodore Roosevelt you have ever seen?

Thanks to the school and parents for this creative way of teaching their students about our nation’s presidents.

What A Mess That Leak Could Have Made!

Early yesterday morning as I was in the office checking on my email and Xanga site, I heard an unusual sound of – DRIP – and wondered where that came from.  A short time later I heard it again, so went to investigate.

I discovered a slow water leak coming from somewhere in the area of our kitchen sink in the floor above me.  The really neat thing was that the leak was dripping into an empty waste can!  What a mess that two quart of water would have made on the file cabinet or desk, just inches away.

Cerwin found a leak in a pipefitting (something to do with the new water softener/purifier we had installed the other week).

Now there were two happy people concerning this problem!  Somebody else had to fix it – not Cerwin – and I didn’t have any wet paperwork!

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  I Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV

and a pure heart…

And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

A Few of My Favorite Pictures From Jared and Andi’s Wedding Shower on Thursday Evening

Andi and Jared

Andi’s “sister” Ashleigh with Carl & Barb’s little girl.

Andi’s sister Laura reading a cute story she wrote about Jared and Andi – using grocery products.

Andi’s sister Kate – Enjoying whatever was going on at the time.

Jared, you may want to reconsider this woman you’ve chosen!

Andi’s brother Kurt enjoyed hanging out with his female cousins.  His brother Tristan (left) wasn’t quite as impressed with the girls.

Our niece, Sarah, and her little girl, Emma.

Andi’s “sister” Reba arranging the bows.

These two Copenhaver cousins stood like this – holding hands – for quite a while, watching Jared and Andi open gifts.

Chapel Construction

A continuation of yesterday’s entry

Cerwin hadn’t taken photos of the construction for about a week and a half, so these photos show what happened since the back part of the trailer (where doors had been) was prepared for a solid wall.  The following photos were taken yesterday.

The solid wall that replaced the back trailer doors.  The small opening is for an air conditioner.

The entrance side of the trailer.

I am standing in the chapel area looking toward the office/living quarters.

Cewin wanted me to show you some photos of the shop area.

He and the rest of the construction crew give honor and praise to the Lord, and thanks to those who donated equipment and funds so TFC can have a fully equipped two-bay shop.  They have waited a long time to have a shop like this for chapel construction.

Cerwin at the Staff Conference this past weekend.

I thought I would use this post to update you on what Cerwin is doing.  This will probably be his year of retirement from Ferrellgas, where he has been driving truck since December 1966 (It was Myer’s Metered Gas when he began).  He will turn sixty-five in April, but plans to work until the end of the year, when he will be able to receive full Social Security benefits.

The Ferrellgas rig Cerwin drives.

We have been involved in Transport For Christ since the early ’70s, but our world changed dramatically in 1990, when Melvin Mast, Northeast Region Director passed away from cancer, and the Lord called Cerwin to that work.

Because both of our sons were getting married that year, Diane was already married, and Deb was the only one at home, we were able to convert our basement into an office.  Joyce Mast (Melvin’s wife) trained me to take over the office work, which enabled Cerwin to continue driving truck – forty hours a week – which he usually did in three days.  That was a great benefit to the Northeast Region, as he did not need a salary from TFC.

That meant he had 3-4 days a week where he could do the work of Region Director, plus, he had five weeks of vacation.  That has worked quite well during the past sixteen years.

TFC International Staff moved into the new office and shop complex in August 2005.  The Northeast Region Office remains in our house.

Last year most of his time away from Ferrellgas was spent doing the work of Regional Director or helping with the construction of TFC’s new International Office and Shop complex, near Marietta, PA – especially during the summer when he set up the interior of the new shop where chapel’s will be built.

Cerwin enjoyed building a large workbench for the new shop.  This year will be extra busy for him (at least until his retirement) as a new responsibility has been added to his work with TFC – Chapel Construction Supervisor.

The trailer on the left is in the beginning stages of being converted into a new chapel.  One of the first things that is done to a trailer is the removal of the back doors – notice the one on the right still has doors on the back.  Cerwin is loving the new shop.  He has built several chapels in our yard, and helped build others in a rented shop that barely had room for one trailer.  Bill Rumpf standing at the rear of the trailer, is a key volunteer in chapel construction.

This rig will be a mobile chapel for the east coast, and will be set up with a generator and prepared for travel.  Permanent chapels stay at truck stops, use electric from that location, and are not moved unless necessary.  This one will be used for promotional work at churches, fairs, etc., or as a temporary chapel at a travel plaza if necessary.

Cerwin took this photo from the front of the trailer so you can see the window that was installed for the living/office quarters of the chapel.

Jay Stauffer, Cerwin’s co-worker at Ferrellgas, is skilled at welding, and prepared the back of the trailer for a solid wall.  This is the last photo Cerwin has.  I plan to give occasional updates, so you can see how an ordinary freight trailer is transformed into a chapel.

TFC’s Northeast Region Staff Conference

Sunday February 19 & Monday February 20

The NE Region Staff Conference is planned to continue on the heels of the Winter Retreat at Camp Hebron as continuing education for the staff; with a goal of keeping us on the growing edge of ministering to the spiritual needs of those in the trucking industry.    This year we were pleased to have John Kay, Sinking Spring, PA, as our resource person.  He is National Account Sales Manager for Caterpillar, Inc. and serves on TFC’s International Board.

John Kay (left) visiting with Chaplain Tom Kemp on Sunday Evening.  Tom is Lead Chaplain at Frystown, PA, and a TFC Chaplain Trainer.

Our staff enjoying Monday morning breakfast in Camp Hebron’s beautiful Sylvan View dining room.  Several ladies commented that it is so nice to come here for several days and not have to think about meal preparation.

John Kay challenged us to be prepared for some major changes in the trucking industry in the next five to ten years.  This means TFC is also going to have to make changes if we want to be a viable ministry in meeting the spiritual needs of drivers.

No one can be a lone ranger in TFC’s mission of fishing for the souls of men.  This was probably my favorite slide in his presentation.  The most challenging slide was the empty parking lot of a once successful trucking company whose leadership carelessly ignored making changes that would have kept their business current with technology and other trucking companies.

Camp Hebron provides wonderful facilities for a weekend of relaxation; growing in the Lord; and making our Northeast Region staff a stronger team.

The evening sunset outside the western windows of our home last night displayed the peace Cerwin and I felt in our souls as we reflected on the activities of the weekend.
