What a Difference a Few Hours Make

cv.JPG

This morning the sun was shining, however, the birds

and critters seemed to know the weather was changing.

By afternoon the sky became gray, and before long the ground was white and wet, but sadly the snowfall was soon over.

cv (6).JPG

Then about nightfall it began to snow again.  This time the flakes were large and fluffy.

 I went out in the darkness to capture a few pretty pictures.

Answer to a Question About the Crescent Moon

Question to my entry yesterday?

Beautiful    So for today’s technical question Doris – Why, in your moon photos, and in mine from MN, is the half and the crescent sideways, but here [United Arab Emeriates], the moon presents as a laugh or a smile respectively?  Is it the latitude?  (I know you don’t have time probably to research this, but perhaps you just know).   Or does anybody reading this know?

I found this on the Internet (with the assistance of our daughter-in-law Chris).  It was there in response to a similar question, “Why does the crescent moon appeared as a smiley face in the Caribbean?”

The orientation of the crescent moon depends on the latitude of the person observing it (the size of the crescent, however, is the same wherever you are). Think about a crescent moon as seen from the Northern hemisphere, and the same Moon as seen from the Southern hemisphere; if we take the people in the Northern hemisphere as “right-side up”, then those in the southern hemisphere are “upside-down”, since the Earth is spherical. Since the existence of the crescent Moon depends only on the relative locations of the Moon, Earth and Sun (and not on one’s location on the Earth), the Moon seen in the Southern hemisphere is upside down when compared to that seen in the Northern hemisphere. This means that if the concave part of the crescent points “left” in North, it will point “right” in the South. Since the transition from a “left” pointing crescent to a “right” pointing one must be smooth, we require that the Moon be a “boat” instead of a crescent at the equator.

They were not disappointed with the lodge – a remodeled country church.

They were pleased with the cozy atmosphere.

Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst For Righteousness, For They Shall Be Satisfied.

Matthew 5:6 RSV

The 4th Beatitude

Notes from our church’s Winter Bible study on the Beatitudes

Sermon by Pastor Mervin Groff

 ~~~
 Beatitudes are attitudes that teach us who we should be.
One of the most exciting things about the beatitudes is that they are attitudes – and we get to choose our attitudes.
~~~

Hunger and thirst are appetites familiar to everyone.

If we don’t eat or drink we will die.

Do we eat and drink of spiritual things as regularly as we eat and drink physically?

~~~
 Righteousness means noble and right.
This beatitude says those who seek that which is noble and right will be satisfied.
~~~

I just did my own research on the word “righteousness” when working on this entry, and discovered that the Old English word for righteous, rihtwis, means right + wise.

I love that!  Right + Wise!

Closing Words

by Pastor Marvin Shenk

Are you seeking righteousness or are you addicted to spiritual junk food?

We can live in a very clean house, eat only healthy food for our body, but allow garbage into our soul.

Deer Hunting Research

Cerwin & Marlin.JPG

Cerwin and my sister’s husband Marlin left at noon today to check out a hunting location in West Virginia.  After leaving our place, they picked up our oldest son, Jeff.

I received a call later in the afternoon, assuring me they were having a good trip.

Since the men are away, my sister Nancy and I decided to go out for lunch.

Amy

We chose the deli where Nancy’s daughter Amy works, and were a bit early for her lunch break so spent half an hour looking at and purchasing some delicious items.

Nancy and Amy chose these drinks for lunch, while I had Papua New Guinea Coffee.

My soup of choice was Thai Vegetable/Rice.  (Delicious!)

Afterwards, Nancy and I decided we were in the mood for new, inspirational coffee cups, so went to Provident Book Store.

Those who read my blog know why this cup came home with me.

This is what I am enjoying while I prepare this entry.  The sand tarts and Papua New Guinea coffee were purchased at the deli.
