Wal-Mart to See Elizabeth

Tuesday, January 1

1-1-08 (23).JPG

This morning we went on a girls-only shopping trip.  I wanted to see Elizabeth at work, and use Bookland’s Internet service to check my e-mail and blog – while Diane, Hannah, Abigail, and Lydia did some shopping.

I made a birthday supper for Diane – to celebrate her forty-second birthday.

Maine & Snow

We left home shortly after 4:15 a.m. Sunday, and made really good time because there was so little traffic for the first four hours.

Maine.JPG

By the time we got to Hartford, Connecticut, Cerwin said we could be in Brunswick, Maine, by 1:30 p.m. if we didn’t stop for lunch.  That meant we could surprise our daughter, Diane, her family and their church family who were having a fellowship meal following the morning service.

What fun to surprise them and see everyone.  I didn’t take my camera along inside, so there aren’t any picture of the afternoon, and by evening I was too tired to take pictures.

Monday Morning

Maine (1).JPG

Even before daylight, I could tell that it was snowing.  This was the scene outside the window, shortly after daylight, where I was working on the computer.

Hezekiah getting a van ready for one of the girls to go to work.

Maine (3).JPG

Babysitting was the plan for the day, as the Naval base nursery care was not available on Monday due to the holiday weekend.  Joseph’s mother, Racquel, brought him in the morning when the snow was heaviest.

Diane made toast “cups” for creamed dry beef and creamed tomato/bacon/onion which we enjoyed for breakfast.

I decided to make creamed tomato, onion, and bacon, since I brought a few tomatoes along that needed to be used.  I was pleased that it was so good, since it was a recipe that I made up so I could use a tomato!

I do not have a picture of Rylee, but she looks pretty much like Mariah.

Diane made a delicious Reuben Ring for supper.

 It was a wonderful day for exploring in the snow, eating delicious food, and playing table games, like Scum and Hand & Foot.

Mark and Diane’s computer isn’t working today, so I am at Bookland using free Wi-Fi while the other ladies are shopping.

A Day of Work and Play

Today.JPG

Cerwin needed help in the yard – to clean up all the Hickory nuts – and since six grandchildren were here, it seemed like a good time to do that job.

Today (1).JPG

The boys did an excellent job of raking and picking up the hundreds of nuts.

Today (2).JPG

I gave Diana a scissors to trim some dead flower and tea stems in the flower bed along the road.

Today (3).JPG

It looks like the photographer has been spotted!

Today (4).JPG

Gloria decided to use the dump truck to pick up sticks, leaves, and nuts.

Today (5).JPG

Josh and Nathan batted nuts with rakes while waiting for the wheelbarrow to return.

~~~
The late afternoon was set aside for relaxation.
Today (6).JPG
Gloria stitching a small plastic canvas block.
Today (7).JPG
Diana, Jenna, and Gloria playing a Nintendo game.  (The boys had moved it to the room attached to the garage – where they slept on air mattresses for the last three nights.)
Today (8).JPG
Jordan on my laptop – checking to see how the market did today.  He is a junior in high school and especially enjoys studying about the stock market, mutual funds, etc.  It’s fun listening to him talking to grandpa about his newfound knowledge.
Today (9).JPG
Jenna and Josh enjoying a video and snack.
Today (10).JPG
Diana getting a cup with a lid – she knows that is what I prefer when she is taking a drink to the children’s room.
Today (11).JPG
Gloria doing the same thing.
Today (12).JPG
Jordan microwaved a few cheese sticks for his late afternoon snack.  Teenage boys are always looking for food!
Their parents came for them between 4:30 and 5:30 this evening – now the house is strangely quiet again.
