Saying Goodbye to Riverwood

Truck Show – Part 8

This is where Cerwin enjoyed his first cup of coffee each morning and checked on the weather. (You can see my laptop and case on the couch.)

This is what I saw if I turned around.

This was the scene in front of me.

I am going to miss the delicious breakfasts and Bert & Marilyn’s pampering.

1a (11).JPG

I just had to do a final walkaround before heading to the truck show.

A final view of the beautiful setting they call Riverwood.

 1a (19).JPG

Chaplain Len (right) went to the truck show earlier than the rest of us, to get set up for morning worship. Kingsway Quartet could be heard in a much broader area than those sitting and standing nearby.

1a (20).JPG

Len shared a short, challenging message.

1a (21).JPG

Before morning worship, we noticed a really smokin’ rig enter the grounds. When he was asked why he didn’t come for the judging competition yesterday, he said, “That is no big deal to me, and this way someone else could win.”

1a (22).JPG

It was named “The Godfather.”

1a (23).JPG

The polished aluminum floor was definitely a no-shoes-area.

1a (24).JPG

Cerwin was impressed with the 10″ stacks.

1a (25).JPG

Remember when Chrome Shop Mafia was on TV, and The Boyz transformed ordinary rigs into something extraordinary? This was one of their masterpieces.

1a (26).JPG

1a (27).JPG

We had to wait to pull the chapel out of the grounds until the other exiting truck traffic slowed down.

1a (28).JPG

The Fergus Truck Show 2010 is now a wonderful memory.

Since it was late afternoon when we left, our goal for that evening was Bordertown Travel Plaza, just before the Canadian/United States border.

Truck Show – Part 7

Today we are in front of the house – looking toward the bird feeders.

I need to stop to take a few closeups before we move on.

…and would you believe there is enough yard and flowers for another walk – maybe after breakfast on Sunday.

Truck Show – Part 6

After two posts from the truck show, I thought you might like going back to Riverwood – the bed and breakfast where we were staying – and take a photo walk with me.

They even have their garage beautifully decorated.

Our bedroom was on the left. Like I said in an earlier post, we chose the bedroom because of the beauty outside our window.

1a.JPG

Let’s keep walking, I want to show you more of their beautifully manicured flowerbeds and garden.

That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.

Potatoes ~ Noise ~ Set Free

Fergus, Ontario, Canada

Saturday, July 24

Truck Show – Part 5

2a (4).JPG

Another smokin’ rig

(Read my previous post if you don’t understand smokin’.)

2a (1).JPG

Many drivers decorated the area around their truck (or trucks) with items they haul or something that identifies their fleet or rig.

 2a (2).JPG

W.D Potato Limited had a creative display…

2a (3).JPG

…using potatoes of course!

2a (19).JPG

Even before you see the name on the trucks you know they have something to do with dairy products.

2a (20).JPG

These antiques were displayed on a flatbed behind one of their trucks.

2a (21).JPG

2a (5).JPG

Two pictures of Chaplain Len and Sue Reimer in action at their vendor spot.

2a (6).JPG

2a (7).JPG

When walking between the vendors, I heard a familiar sound…

2a (8).JPG

…because the truck pulls were happening.

2a (9).JPG

A driver making his/her best effort in pulling the sled. (Of the two pulls I watched, one was a female.)

2a (10).JPG

2a (11).JPG

Outside the arena, tractors and trucks of all shapes and sizes were preparing for their competition.

2a (12).JPG

2a (13).JPG

2a (14).JPG

The ground was vibrating all around me – as were my ear drums.

2a (15).JPG

Another noticeable thing when walking through this area was the strong scent of fuel.

2a (16).JPG

2a (17).JPG

2a (18).JPG

Methinks this one was in the demolition derby.

2a (22).JPG

It was much quieter here – across from the chapel. This company prepared a really nice display with their equipment, mulch, and flowers.

2a (23).JPG

The police department was directly behind us…

2a (24).JPG

…and patrolled on a regular basis.

2a (25).JPG

Visitors continued to come to the chapel to see what we were all about.

2a (26).JPG

2a (27).JPG

The highlight for us came on Saturday night when this young man (Jesse) in yellow came to the chapel and asked questions about eternity. He was not sure that he was prepared to meet God.

It was a joy to lead him to faith in Jesus – then introduce him to Chaplain Len – who invited us to Fergus, and had been praying for at least one salvation at the show.

2a (28).JPG

Jesse kept saying, “I feel free. I feel free.”

Pray for him, because his circumstances do not seem to be the best in which a young man can grow in the Lord.

Truck Show – Part 4

1 (1).JPG

This was the scene in the dining room when I went to the kitchen on Saturday morning for my first cup of coffee.

 1 (2).JPG

Bert joined us on this morning, as the campers had all been registered. I loved listening to him respond to our questions, because of his great English accent. He was born in Durban, South Africa. He also seems to be the mastermind and caretaker of the gardens and lawn surrounding the house. Although he says he couldn’t do it without Marilyn.

1 (3).JPG

If I had to choose a favorite of our three breakfasts, this Pineapple Upsidedown French Toast would win by a slight edge – because each meal was delicious.

1 (5).JPG

Before long it was time to leave this beautiful setting.

1 (4).JPG

Each time I walked through the front doors, I paused to take in all the beauty surrounding me.

1 (6).JPG

At the truck show, arriving trucks continued to rumble by the chapel.

1 (7).JPG

1 (8).JPG

1 (9).JPG

During my first walk around the grounds on Saturday, I came upon this beautiful rig – decorated with 357 lights. The driver (I think he was the owner’s son) was being interviewed during my visit.

1 (10).JPG

The owner told me that each light is 9 dyodes.

When walking away from here, I heard a woman say,  “That is one smokin’ rig.” Maybe smokin’ is the correct term according to truckers – rather than the word beautiful that I have been using.

1 (11).JPG

And the floor is granite!

“I bet you don’t wear shoes when you drive.” I said.

He smiled, and replied, “You got that right.”

Granite covered the entire floor – back to the sleeper.

1 (12).JPG

By Saturday morning Bell City Transport had their trucks beautifully arranged.

1 (13).JPG

1 (14).JPG

Another “no shoes” floor.

1 (15).JPG

This was one of my favorites.

1 (16).JPG

That is one beautiful scene.

1 (17).JPG

On one of my walkabouts, the driver, Merlin Weber was polishing the tractor.

1 (18).JPG

He and his family had the front beautifully decorated.

 1 (20).JPG

1 (21).JPG

While visiting with his wife, Cherylanne, it began raining – pouring rain – so she invited me inside their tent.

1 (22).JPG

Merlin, one of their sons, and Cherylanne. Their other son is partially hidden on the left.

I appreciated their kindness, as I would have been very wet if I had to walk back to the chapel during the rain.

1 (23).JPG

This truck was new when I was a senior in high school.

1 (24).JPG

This 1950 Mercury was on the road for the first time when Cerwin was nine. It was his favorite antique at the show. It has a flathead V-8 under the hood.

1 (25).JPG

There was no shortage of beautiful (smokin’) rigs

1 (26).JPG

1 (27).JPG

Vendors with creative names lined the field.

1 (28).JPG

More of the Fergus Truck Show tomorrow night.
