Mexican Meal & Mariachi Band

Monday Evening, September 20

Road Trip – Day 5 – Ohio

After spending time with Jason and Shannon – and looking at the tornado damage at their house here, we offered to take them out for supper. They chose a Mexican Restaurant in a nearby town.

At our table – left to right: Jason, Gary (Jason’s dad), Cerwin, Shannon’s stepdad, Shannon’s mother, Pearl (Jason’s mother), Shannon, and Christianna.

My meal (oh, that makes me want to go out to a Mexican restaurant tonight)

There was mariachi music in the restaurant on this night. At first I thought, “Oh, I wonder if Jason and Shannon will like all the noise, because their past few days had been traumatic.” However, Shannon said she loves mariachi music and it was just what she needed.

Old Buildings

Trucks & A Truck Accident

Monday, September 20

Road Trip – Day 5 – Indiana to Ohio

2a (1).JPG

I had a great time enjoying the scenery on a few back roads before we got to the interstate in western Ohio.

2a (2).JPG

I just can’t resist taking pictures of old buildings – even if they are “drive-by shootings.”

On the interstate, I also enjoy the scenery, but it is rare to find old buildings there, so this time I took some shots of trucks – mostly to remind you to pray for the men and women who move our economy from east to west and north to south.

As we approached our destination for the day, we came upon an awful accident – and were the last vehicle to get through before they began uprighting the two trucks.

2a (12).JPG

We prayed for the drivers and their families, wondering if both drivers were still alive, as the cab of the one rig was completely burnt.

2a (13).JPG

My heart aches when I seen any accident, but truckers have a special place in my heart.

I could not find any information on the internet to let me know if the drivers are okay.

Harvest & Berne, Indiana

Monday, September 20

Road Trip – Day 5 – Indiana to Ohio

Corn and soybean harvest was going strong as we traveled east on Monday.

Acres and acres of empty fields mean these crops must be stored somewhere.

1a (10).JPG

Grain bins are almost as plentiful as harvesting equipment.

As we worked our way to Route 30, I noticed that Berne, Indiana, was ahead of us. I told Cerwin, “I think that is Amish country.”

1a (13).JPG

Shortly after arriving in Berne, we stopped at a McDonalds for a latte, and knew I was correct. This is the first time I ever saw a McDonalds with hitching post parking for Amish buggies!

We drove by many neat Amish farms – most with white buildings and laundry on the clothesline.

Windmills – another indication of an Amish farm.

…and of course the buggies. The ones in this area are built a bit differently than those in southeastern Pennsylvania.

I loved driving through this area.
