Chapel Construction for 2012

Replacing

Open Door Chapel

Pilot Travel Center, I-78, Exit 10

Frystown, Pennsylvania

1

Approaching Pilot Travel Center – notice the chapel in the right background.

2 (2)

The paint job and lettering on this chapel has been gradually deteriorating – especially on the south side.

3 (4)

It is a short trailer – about forty-four-feet, meaning that the space inside is about four feet shorter than the ones Cerwin and his helpers currently build.

4

Another thing that caused the ministry to focus on replacing this chapel is that the truck stop owners are updating the entire travel center.

6 (2)

I will keep you updated as this project moves forward.

~~~
Please pray for Cerwin as he prepares for early construction. We praise the Lord for the donation of a forty-eight-foot trailer.
A Striped Sunrise – Porch Decorations
Trumpeter Swans
Saturday, January 7, 2012
1 (2)
An interesting, striped sunrise.
1 (4)
1a
While traveling to the Frystown, Pennsylvania, chapel yesterday, we at first thought there were real people standing on this balcony porch.
2 (1)
If they have been singing since Christmas – they may soon have hoarse voices.
2 (3)
I liked the creative porch decorations at this house just around the corner from the singers.
2 (8)
I expect these Trumpeter Swans are heading south for the winter.
2 (9)
It was a beautiful day in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Jesse ~ Birds ~ Sweet Words
Jesse
Jesse was here the other day while his mom put in extra time at the doctor’s office (where she works a few times a week) to catch up on some medical reports.
DSC_0112
He was anxious to play Kirby Air Ride, the game we got the other day in a store near Chuck E Cheese’s.
DSC_0114
I thought he looked cute relaxing in our bed.
It is difficult to find new games for the GameCube because it is an early version of electronic games. However, I can sometimes find a used one in an electronic game store or online. Many are violent (which I avoid), so I was pleased to find this one – and that the little boys love it.
Birds
I love feather patterns on birds.
A downy woodpecker keeping an eye on me.
I was delighted to capture this picture. Cardinals are usually afraid of any movement inside the window and quickly fly away.
Another pretty feather pattern
Sweet Words
~~~

Last night the State Policeman called – the one who came to the accident scene – to ask why a Toyota RAV4 was showing up when he entered our license plate number. His records showed that I was driving a Honda CRV at the time of the accident.

When I explained that we purchased the Toyota last Saturday. He laughed and said, “That makes sense.”

Then he asked how I was doing and had a few more questions about the accident. When I explained that I was having a slow-fade-pass-out as I approached the stop sign, with no control of stopping or moving forward, he said “That sure agrees with what each of the witnesses said.”

Those were sweet words to me.

I was praying that someone who had been at the accident scene would confirm what I was sure had happened. Isn’t it just like God to reply with more than I asked? I asked for one person to confirm it and He supplied several.

God is good!

A Drive to Maytown

Where I Have Wonderful Childhood Memories

Tuesday, January 3

1 (1)

The purpose of this drive was to go for my bone density test – which is where I was heading the day of the accident.

1 (2)

We drove through a snow flurry several times on the way to the health campus.

1 (3)

1 (4)

1a

The health campus is located in Mount Joy, and since we went from there to the TFC office near Marietta (where I had some reports to drop off), we drove through Maytown where my grandparents lived and where my mother grew up.

1b

This brick building was a general store when I was a child. One of my childhood memories is walking here with my mother’s youngest sister, Joyce, who is just a few years older than I.

My favorite memory of this place is the time I tasted my first “store boughten” chocolate milk. We lived on a dairy farm, so the only chocolate milk I drank was made with milk from our cows.

2

This is the home place where my mother and her seven siblings grew up.

2a

The lighting was better on this side of the buildings.

3 (1)

This photo is from the 30s or 40s. A note on the picture says the car is a 1938 Ford.

3 (2)

A picture of my mother – probably as a teenager or in her early twenties.

3a

My grandpa (Victor) and grandma (Elizabeth) Hawthorne. This is how I remember them. I expect they were in their sixties, probably near my current age. The baby is one of my cousins.

4 (2)

After retiring from the farm, they built this house on a plot from the farm.

4 (1)

It is difficult to find it these days, because there are similar houses on both sides. I recognize it by the driveway which has a slight decline.
