On the Road to Chilliwack, BC

Day 2

South Bend to Omaha

We were on the road by 4:30 this morning.  I was surprised at how much traffic there was at that time of day – but then, we were approaching Chicago.  I missed the Illinois sign because of the dark.

We saw some high waters just before entering Iowa, although this place looked like it was prepared.

When http://www.xanga.com/slmret noticed that I enjoy following the Iditarod, she said I may enjoy this mystery, so I found a used one online.

I don’t often read murder mysteries, but this one has me “hooked.”  I told Cerwin I am going to pick up this book every time I get sleepy while we’re driving.

Some of the language is raw, however, I am enjoying the great descriptions of life on the trail.

It was time for brunch, so we took advantage of this truck stop.

I was surprised to see bits of snow.

We saw the familiar Sapp Bros coffee cup at 2:30.

It was good to see the Omaha chapel again.

Cerwin skillfully backed the chapel into the line of trucks in front of the permanent chapel.

Even better than seeing the chapel, was seeing Chaplain Dave and Laura Hertle, and our friend Kathy.

Since we were staying at the Hertle’s overnight, we treated them to supper at Cracker Barrel.

Chaplain Wayne Foreman stopped in after the study to say hi, and show us some pictures of a model chapel he built.

If we remember correctly, it is eight feet long.  He will use it for promotional work at fairs, churches, and parades.

We feel your prayers.  It was another good day on the road
